Dr. Ngo Thi Thu Cuc - dermatologist, Venus Beauty Center said that there are five types of skin: dry skin, oily skin, normal skin, combination skin, sensitive skin. Masks have different functions such as: moisturizing, exfoliating, treating acne, anti-aging, providing nutrients... Vegetable masks only provide vitamins and minerals to the skin, ready-made medicated masks have more therapeutic uses. Before applying a mask, you should know what type of skin you have and what the purpose of the mask is because not all masks are suitable for your skin. If you have sensitive skin, using natural masks can also cause skin allergies. Therefore, you should consult a specialist to get the right type of mask.
You should only apply the mask when your skin is completely healthy, such as not scratched or having many pimples, to avoid damaging your skin. Before applying, you must wash your skin, wipe it with lotion, massage or steam your face with hot water for about 15 minutes to open your pores and absorb nutrients easily. After applying the mask, your skin will be weak, susceptible to sunburn and dust pollution, so you should apply it at night.
Many people believe that the longer they leave the mask on, the more nutrients their skin absorbs, so they often leave the mask on to watch movies, read newspapers, or even sleep until morning. However, each type of mask has a certain time limit. It is best to use it for only 15-20 minutes. Masks with strong detergents should only be left on for 10-15 minutes. The longer you leave it on, the more clogged your pores will be, the sebum glands will not have room to "breathe", and your skin will be prone to acne and itching. Not to mention, masks with detergents will take away the skin's natural moisture, causing dry, wrinkled skin.
Applying a mask that is too thick will also increase the skin's surface temperature, open up pores, and create conditions for dust and bacteria to grow. Therefore, you should only apply a moderately thin layer.
Applying a mask too many times a week is like peeling your skin. The more you peel, the younger and weaker your skin becomes, making it more susceptible to sunburn and losing its protective layer. You should only apply it twice a week to give your skin time to regenerate and recover.
Dr. Thu Cuc advises: whether it is a ready-made mask or a homemade mask, before applying it to your face, you need to check if it is suitable for your skin by applying a thin layer on the inside of your arm. If there is an unusual reaction such as redness, itching, etc., you should not continue.
