Hydroelectric dam partially collapsed, China evacuated thousands of people

Part of the Ngap Binh hydroelectric dam in Hubei province, China has collapsed, forcing local authorities to carry out repairs.

China Youth Daily quoted sources from the Hubei Provincial Emergency Management Department,ChinaAccording to the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, due to the impact of recent heavy rains, the Ngap Binh hydroelectric dam in Thap Yen city has shown signs of subsidence and cracking.

A video posted on China's Haokan website on September 4 shows authorities attempting to repair the dam, while 5,456 people living in 15 nearby villages have been evacuated to safety.

“Everything is in order. The dam is currently undergoing repairs. If the repairs go well, everything will be fine,” a resident said in the video.
