On the afternoon of July 27, some information appeared on social networks saying that the Ban Ve Hydropower Plant (Yen Na Commune, Nghe An Province) had broken. This information quickly spread, causing hundreds of households living in the communes downstream of the Ban Ve Hydropower Plant to panic and flee to the mountains to avoid rising floods.

Upon verification, the above information was found to be completely false. In light of the above situation, the Director of Nghe An Provincial Police Department directed the forces to urgently verify, clarify, and strictly handle cases of spreading false rumors that affect security and order in the area. The Internal Political Security Department, Nghe An Provincial Police Department urgently reviewed accounts posting false information. Initially, it was discovered that at 5:30 p.m. on July 27, the account "LTS" live-streamed a video with the content: "Hearing the news of the hydroelectric dam breaking, people ran in panic, hoping for peace".

The working group of the Internal Political Security Department coordinated with the Tuong Duong Commune Police to verify and summon the Facebook account owner for questioning. Through verification, the Facebook account owner was LTS (born in 1998, residing in Yen Hoa Commune, Nghe An Province).

At the police station, S. said that at that time, he was at a relative's house in Hoa Nam block, Tuong Duong commune, and discovered that people were shouting about the hydroelectric dam breaking. Although he had not verified the information, he used his phone to broadcast live to inform everyone. After learning about the false information, S. also took the initiative to remove the post on his personal page.

Tuong Duong Commune Police are continuing to consolidate the case file for handling according to the provisions of law.

In recent days, the communes in Western Nghe An have been seriously affected by the historic flood. While the government, functional forces and people are trying to overcome the damage caused by storm No. 3, some people have posted and disseminated false and unverified information, causing public confusion. Nghe An police recommend that people obtain information through official press agencies and absolutely do not share or disseminate unverified information, which affects local security and order.
