Fish oil prevents eczema in fetuses
Recent research by Australian medical professionals shows that pregnant women who use fish oil during pregnancy can help prevent eczema in their babies when they are born.
According to Daily Mail, a team of medical experts from the University of Adelaide conducted a test on 706 pregnant women with a family history of allergies. Half of them were given fish oil supplements three times a day from the 21st week of pregnancy until giving birth; the rest were given vegetable oil supplements.
The results showed that pregnant women who regularly supplemented fish oil during pregnancy had children born with fewer allergies and eczema than the rest. According to the research team, this is because omega 3 acids in fish oil have a positive effect on the immune system of the fetus, helping to protect against eczema at birth.
