Soldiers draw about soldiers' sacrifices
Painter Bui Le Trang was born in 1973 in Phu Yen. At the age of 18, he joined the army and received officer training in Da Nang. However, due to poor health, Bui Le Trang's military career had to stop. He has been in Ho Chi Minh City for more than 20 years to study painting and make a living from this profession. Painter Bui Le Trang's paintings are loved by many domestic and foreign collectors.
The artist said: “I was a soldier so I admire the sacrifices of the soldiers on Gac Ma Island when they were on duty to protect the country. I hope my painting will be auctioned well, so that there will be enough funds to compensate the relatives of the soldiers who died on Gac Ma Island in 1988.”

Hero Le Ma Luong was the first person to bid for the painting Gac Ma – Immortal Circle over the phone for 50 million VND. He added: “If someone bids higher than me, it would be a very valuable thing for the families of the martyrs who sacrificed their lives in Gac Ma, especially on the occasion of gratitude on July 27th.”
After Mr. Luong, Mr. Tran Minh Hung, General Director of AMAVN Foreign Language School System contacted Mr. Nguyen Van Phuoc to auction the painting Gac Ma - Immortal Circle for 80 million VND. This auction will close on July 24, hopefully the amount will not stop at a few hundred million VND.
Incense sticks sent to the martyrs
According to information from First News, the book Gac Ma – Immortal Circle, which is about to be published, will include a list of 64 martyrs who died in Gac Ma on March 14, 1988. It was hero Le Ma Luong, former Director of the Vietnam Military History Museum, who contributed to the publication of this list.
Hero Le Ma Luong said: “The bloody event of March 14, 1988 will forever go down in the heroic history of the Vietnamese people’s struggle to build and defend the country. Sixty-four of our naval soldiers acted like heroes and bravely sacrificed themselves. And behind the 64 soldiers who sacrificed themselves at Gac Ma in 1988, there were not only 64 mothers and wives who were heartbroken and cried their eyes out for them.”
Major General Le Ma Luong choked up: “Until now, those 48 heroic sons still have to wander their bodies in the vast ocean. For that reason, day after day, their comrades are still tormented. The book Gac Ma – Immortal Circle is considered our incense stick to express our gratitude to the 64 Navy soldiers, the loyal and filial sons of the Vietnamese people."
