South Korea is worried about the manifestation of signs of the 20th century cold war in Northeast Asia, and to appease the situation the government is pursuing a new policy towards the North.

This was stated by the South Korean National Assembly Member, Chairman of the Committee for Economic Cooperation with the North under the South Korean President, Mr. Son Young-Gil, at the opening ceremony of the Russia-Korea Far East Forum in Vladivostok.

"I am most concerned about the fact that signs of the 20th century Cold War are beginning to appear in Northeast Asia. We know that in this region there are efforts by different blocs, for example, strategic cooperation between Russia and China, and strengthening the alliance between the United States and Japan," Son Young-Gil said.

He noted that events in Northeast Asia have raised fears of the risk of "starting a new cold war."

“My efforts are aimed at easing the political situation in Northeast Asia. That is why my government has begun to pursue a new policy towards the north, which is on the same plane as the new eastern policy of the Putin government. I think the result of this interaction is our interaction at the Eastern Economic Forum,” Son Young-Gil added.
