In the ASEAN region, Vietnam ranks lowest with only 24 visa-free countries. |
Vietnam could benefit significantly from expanding visa exemptions to Western countries such as Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Switzerland, the Netherlands and Belgium, the Vietnam Tourism Advisory Board said.
Facilitating visa issuance would increase the number of arrivals by about 8-10%, resulting in an additional $100 million in direct revenue - much higher than the $17 million lost in visa fees.
According to the Vietnam Tourism Advisory Board, the visa exemption program is not without reciprocity. This is especially true in the Asia-Pacific region, where countries such as Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, and the Philippines each offer visa exemptions to more than 160 countries. Although not all of these countries offer bilateral visa exemptions.
