In the ASEAN region, Vietnam ranks lowest with only 24 visa-free countries. |
Vietnam could benefit significantly from the expansion of visa exemptions to Western countries such as Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Switzerland, the Netherlands and Belgium, the Vietnam Tourism Advisory Council said.
With the facilitation of visa issuance increasing the number of arrivals by about 8-10%, direct revenue increased by 100 million USD - much higher than the lost visa fees of 17 million USD.
According to information from the Vietnam Tourism Advisory Board, the visa exemption program is not without reciprocity. This is especially true in the Asia-Pacific region, where each country such as Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, and the Philippines has implemented visa exemptions for more than 160 countries. Although not all of those countries have bilateral visa exemptions.
