Investing 10,800 billion VND to upgrade and build new cultural works

The project "Planning, upgrading and constructing new cultural works (theaters, cinemas, art and literature exhibition houses) for the period 2012 - 2020" was approved by the Prime Minister with a budget of up to 10,800 billion VND.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism said that according to the Project, 51 new theaters will be built and 20 theaters will be upgraded. Specifically, 11 new theaters with large scale of 2,000 - 2,500 seats will be built, with modern equipment, quality meeting international standards in sound, lighting and stage mechanics.

In special urban areas such as Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, a number of large-scale, modern cultural works are being built that are qualified to host international events.

In the central urban areas of the socio-economic region, type I urban areas including the cities of Thai Nguyen, Hai Phong, Vinh, Hue, Da Nang, Quy Nhon, Nha Trang, Da Lat, Buon Ma Thuot and Can Tho, build a number of cultural works of suitable scale, modern enough to organize events for the region and the country.

In urban areas of type II, type III and some residential areas next to large industrial parks, national tourist areas, and densely populated urban areas, a number of cultural facilities (comprehensive institutions) will be built, depending on the population size and characteristics of each province or city, which may include 1 to 3 functions (cinema, cinema complex; theater; exhibition hall) in one cultural institution.

According to the Project, in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, new large-scale theaters with 2,500 - 3,000 seats will be built. At the same time, 40 new large-scale theaters with 1,000 - 2,000 seats will be built in provinces that do not have central theaters and cities that are regional centers, large industrial and service centers.

The total number of cinemas that need to be upgraded and newly built is 106. Specifically, two new multi-purpose cinema centers will be built in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City with a capacity of about 1,500 seats, each cinema complex will have 8-10 screening rooms and can arrange a number of 3D, 4D cinemas and other comprehensive cultural services, ensuring the ability to organize international and domestic film festivals.

According to the Project, the total number of exhibition halls that need to be upgraded and newly built is 66. Specifically, investing in upgrading the existing Vietnam Literature and Arts Exhibition House in Hanoi to a scale that can host international exhibitions, with an area of ​​about 24,000 m2 of construction floor space, with modern equipment. Building a new building in Ho Chi Minh City.

The total investment capital for the 2012-2020 period is expected to be 10,800 billion VND, of which the state budget is 6,500 billion VND (accounting for 60.2%), and other mobilized sources are 4,300 billion VND (accounting for 39.8%).

The objective of the Project is to complete the system of cultural works to meet the needs of the cultural and spiritual life of the people, especially in remote areas with difficult economic conditions. Gradually invest in upgrading and constructing new cultural works of high quality, modernity, and regional stature.
