Promote production and processing, create goods for export

(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of May 9, Nghe An Provincial People's Committee held a conference to summarize import-export activities in 2012 and deploy tasks and solutions to promote import-export activities in 2013. Comrade Thai Van Hang - Member of the Provincial Party Committee, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee chaired the conference.

In 2012, Nghe An had 151 enterprises participating in export activities, achieving a total turnover of 530.1 million USD, exceeding the annual plan by 32.5%. Of which, the export turnover of goods reached 263.7 million USD; foreign currency collection services reached 17.9 million USD; and labor export reached 248.4 million USD.

Also in 2012, enterprises in the province exported to foreign markets over 34 types of products, including 2 products: wood chips, cassava products and cassava starch with a turnover of over 55 million USD; 4 products: construction materials, various types of stone, processed seafood, textiles and garments with a turnover of 10-27.7 million USD.

The main markets are still China, Laos, Korea, India... Regarding import activities, in 2012, there were 83 enterprises participating in activities, reaching a turnover of nearly 143.1 million USD, the main products are machinery and equipment, raw materials, fertilizers, wood of all kinds... serving production and processing for export.

Overall assessment in 2012, enterprises have made efforts to exceed the planned target of export turnover; some items increased significantly compared to the previous year in both quantity and turnover; The structure of export goods has changed significantly; the structure of import and export goods of enterprises in the province is relatively stable...

However, the export scale is still small compared to the potential and development requirements, the average export turnover per capita is low compared to the national average. Although the export turnover in 2012 increased compared to 2011, it is not stable, not highly effective, some products of enterprises still depend on goods from other provinces and foreign markets... The reason is that our province does not have a key area for producing export goods with large volumes; has not attracted reputable domestic and foreign investors to invest in projects to develop the production of agricultural, forestry and seafood products for export, the competitiveness index has not been improved much and the prices of many types of goods on the world market fluctuate frequently, high interest rates, lack of capital cause difficulties for many enterprises...

Speaking at the conference, comrade Thai Van Hang - Member of the Provincial Party Committee, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee acknowledged the results achieved by enterprises in the past year despite many difficulties in the world and domestic economic situation.

To complete the 2013 plan target of achieving a total turnover of 500-550 million USD, with export turnover alone reaching 300 million USD, the Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee suggested that in the coming time, relevant departments, branches and localities need to promote production and processing of goods, create a rich source of export goods and services; promote domestic and foreign investment attraction, enhance the competitiveness of enterprises and export goods; create and expand export goods markets; regularly approach enterprises to remove difficulties and obstacles to create favorable conditions for enterprises in production and import-export business activities.

In addition, enterprises need to take advantage of opportunities to boost production and business, enhance trade promotion activities, expand markets, etc., contributing to completing the export plan targets set by the 17th Provincial Party Congress.
