Promote propaganda to raise awareness of poverty reduction work

(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of February 10, under the chairmanship of Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Hoang Viet Duong, the Steering Committee for the implementation of the provincial poverty reduction target program held a meeting to assess the preliminary results of poverty reduction work in 2014 and to strengthen the Steering Committee.

In 2014, the mobilized resources for poverty reduction programs in the province reached over 3,003 billion VND, of which the central budget invested over 2,838 billion VND under the national target program, the province invested 10 billion VND under Decision No. 59/QD-UBND on poverty reduction support mechanisms for 42 poor communes, and socialized mobilization of agencies, units, and enterprises to support 155 billion VND. In addition, the Mobilization Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front at all levels mobilized 29 billion VND from the "Fund for the Poor", exceeding 170% of the plan; 161 agencies, units, organizations, unions, enterprises, and individuals registered to support the program "Tet for the Poor At Mui 2015" with a total amount of 31.4 billion VND.

From these resources, the province has effectively implemented preferential credit policies for poor households, programs to support poor households in housing, education, health care, etc. Thanks to that, the poverty rate of the whole province decreased from 13.4% at the beginning of 2014 to 10.28% at the end of the year, a decrease of 3.12%, higher than the Resolution of the Provincial Party Congress (2.5 - 3%/year).

In addition to the achieved results, the members of the Steering Committee also pointed out some shortcomings and limitations in poverty reduction work in 2014 such as: the awareness of some Party committees, authorities, and mass organizations about poverty reduction work is still limited, many poor households still have the mentality of waiting and relying on state support, resources for the poverty reduction target program have not actually met the requirements... Therefore, the poverty rate of the province is still higher than the national average; poverty reduction results are not sustainable, the risk of falling back into poverty is still high... The proposed solutions are to continue to promote propaganda work, raise awareness about poverty reduction work; organize well the annual investigation and review of poor households and classify poor households according to each group of households with causes of poverty to have appropriate support solutions; improve the capacity of the poverty reduction team and key cadres in poor communes; Promote socialization to mobilize all resources to achieve poverty reduction goals, continue to mobilize agencies, units, and businesses to receive help and support for poor districts, communes, and households...

On this occasion, according to Decision No. 524/QD-UBND dated February 5, 2015 on the consolidation of the Steering Committee for the implementation of the provincial poverty reduction target program, the Steering Committee has 17 members, with comrade Hoang Viet Duong as head of the committee replacing comrade Le Xuan Dai./.
