Speed up construction progress of Hua Na hydropower project

July 22, 2011 16:17

(Baonghean) -The Hua Na Hydropower Project on the Chu River has a designed capacity of 180 MW, invested by Hua Na Hydropower Joint Stock Company (under the Petroleum Power Corporation). This is the second largest hydropower project in the province (after the 320 MW Ban Ve Hydropower Project). Due to the key nature of the project, the investor and contractors are focusing on means and human resources to speed up construction.

When completed, the project, in addition to providing an average annual electricity output of 712.7 million kWh, will also participate in flood prevention with 100 million m3, supplementing the downstream water supply during the dry season and increasing the Cua Dat Hydropower Plant (Thanh Hoa) by 20.1 million kWh/year and 7.4 MW of guaranteed capacity.

According to the report of the Project Management Board, the main construction items including the dam and spillway are ahead of schedule with a total volume of 53%, the monthly concrete volume reaches 25,000-30,000 m3 and the target of reaching the flood control level in 2011 is completed. Other items such as the water intake, factory, and auxiliary dam are also actively speeding up progress. However, the biggest difficulty of the construction project at present is the construction of the water tunnel and pressure tower. The construction of the water tunnel is difficult due to bad geology, while the pressure tower item is facing hard geology, which has damaged machinery and equipment, leading to slow construction progress. To speed up the construction of the pressure tower, the investor and contractor had to change the construction method from boring to small blasting from the bottom of the well.

Contractors are focusing on construction of the main dam.

In addition to the main construction items that contractors are focusing on, equipment packages have also been implemented simultaneously. 55/293 dam monitoring equipment have been installed. At the spillway, the equipment fabrication work has reached about 80%, and the installation of the bottom plate grounding has basically been completed. The hydromechanical equipment part, manufactured and installed by LILAMA's domestic contractors, is also being urgently ensured to ensure progress. The 220kV Hua Na-Thanh Hoa transmission line system is being focused on digging the foundation pit, pouring concrete for the pier base, digging and filling the ground and filling the foundation pit.

The tunnel opening milestone of August 31, 2011 may not be achieved due to objective reasons, but the important goal is to complete construction and installation items, as well as resettle people so that the project can start storing water in the reservoir at the beginning of the 2012 rainy season and start operating to produce commercial electricity in the fourth quarter of 2012.
