(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of March 25, under the chairmanship of Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Dinh Viet Hong, the Nghe An Provincial People's Committee had a working session with the World Bank and Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development delegation on the progress of the implementation of the coastal resources for sustainable development (CRSD) project.

The Coastal Resources for Sustainable Development Project is co-financed by the Government of Vietnam and the International Development Association (IDA)/World Bank, and implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and eight project provinces: Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Ha Tinh, Binh Dinh, Phu Yen, Khanh Hoa, Soc Trang and Ca Mau. The overall objective of the project is to improve sustainable coastal fisheries management in selected coastal provinces of Vietnam. The project consists of four components: Strengthening institutional capacity for sustainable fisheries management; good practices for sustainable aquaculture; sustainable management of coastal fisheries; and project management, monitoring and evaluation.

The project has been implemented in Nghe An since 2013, and to date the completed volume is more than 94 billion VND, nearly 35% of the total project investment. In 2013-2014, the CRSD Nghe An Project Management Board has supported the construction of 2 diversified areas with an implemented farming area of ​​63 hectares. The project has supported the construction of 7 diversified farming models. Through the project, fishermen's awareness has changed dramatically, they are more conscious of protecting the marine environment, the number of violations in exploitation has decreased by about 30% compared to 2012, the environment in aquaculture and processing areas of localities in the project area has been significantly improved, fishing logistics have been strengthened, contributing to increasing the economic value for fishermen.

At the meeting, the two sides agreed on decentralizing the approval of bidding plans for small-value packages, assigning the investor to the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development; Nghe An Provincial People's Committee will create all conditions for the project to be implemented on schedule, such as supporting the improvement of coastal space, timely meeting counterpart funding sources, etc. On the World Bank side, the capital will be disbursed promptly for Nghe An to implement the project.
