Teaching and learning of resettled children is still full of difficulties.
(Baonghean) -After wandering around for a while, we finally found Huong Tien Primary School (Ngoc Lam Commune, Thanh Chuong District, Nghe An) - a small primary school for children of resettled people from Tuong Duong.
Before 2005, Ngoc Lam commune was a wild, uninhabited land. In 2006, when the people migrated from Ban Ve - Tuong Duong Hydropower Plant to resettle in this land, the new commune of Ngoc Lam began to form. Ngoc Lam is a particularly difficult commune of Thanh Chuong district, with 1,474 Thai ethnic households from Tuong Duong settling in 14 villages. To facilitate the children's learning, Huong Tien Primary School was arranged with 6 separate locations including: the main location in Ma village with 10 classes; Khe Tron 7 classes; Hien village 3 classes; Muong village 4 classes and Xop Pe village 2 classes. With a total of nearly 500 students.
Starting from the second semester of 2006 - when the people gave up their land for the Ban Ve - Tuong Duong Hydropower Project to settle here, Huong Tien Primary School had students. The migration process lasted for 5 years, from 2006 to 2010, so the people's lives were not stable, their children did not attend school regularly, teachers had to go to each house to propagate and mobilize people to send their children to school to learn letters and knowledge, to become teachers, doctors... in the future to teach and treat people. Just like that, "slow and steady wins the race", many parents created conditions for their children to go to school. However, in the first years, many households moved to the new place but did not have land for production, so they returned to their old hometown to farm, and their children followed. In such cases, it was very difficult for teachers to persuade children to stay in class. When it rained, students often had to miss school because the water overflowed the stream and became too deep to walk. Teachers must also thoroughly instruct students to take a break to ensure their safety.
Ms. Vi Thi Huong - Head teacher of class 5C, Huong Tien Primary School shared: due to the geographical conditions and the fact that the resettled people's lives are not completely stable, in addition to the limited level of awareness of the people, the quality of their children's education is not high. Huong Tien Primary School has very few good and excellent students, mainly average and weak students. It is very gratifying that in the 2010-2011 school year, for the first time, the school had 9 excellent students in the district, 6 students won online math competitions.
Class and recess time of students at Huong Tien Primary School
Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Nga - Head teacher of class 3C (originally from Nghi Truong commune, Nghi Loc district) has taught in the mountainous district for 21 years, and at Huu Duong Primary School - Tuong Duong for 18 years. Since 2009, students of this school have been resettled in Ngoc Lam commune - Thanh Chuong, Ms. Nga has also followed her students to teach here. After 21 years of working with students in the mountainous area with many difficulties, hardships, and shortages, she still loves her job passionately. The heart of a kind teacher, who is willing to suffer, stay in the village, and lead students to school on rainy days has touched many parents in this mountainous area. Class 3C has only 19 students, she understands the personality and circumstances of each student. Although both she and her students still have many difficulties, Ms. Nga always tries her best to teach and gives them love, sharing, and encouraging them to come to class and study hard.
It is known that from 2009 until now, Ngoc Lam Commune People's Committee has not had a working office, and has had to borrow a row of houses from Huong Tien Primary School to work. Because they study in the same working environment as the Commune People's Committee, every day there are quite a lot of visitors coming and going, which has affected the quality of teaching and learning at the school. Mountainous students are very curious, all activities of the Commune People's Committee attract the attention of students, every time they see visitors coming, they just look out, not paying attention to the teacher's lecture... that is also one of the limitations that makes the quality of training here not high...
Leaving Huong Tien Primary School, it was already dark, a sudden fierce rainstorm came, I missed the teachers and students of the primary school here even more...
