To make 'Vinh orange' truly reign supreme and maintain a sustainable brand
(Baonghean.vn) - Currently, some consumers who are connoisseurs of Vinh oranges say: "After tasting Vinh oranges with labels, I see that the quality of Vinh oranges between regions is not consistent." This assessment is true to reality.
Why? Because the uniformity of the delicious and sweet quality of oranges depends entirely on the following basic factors:
Firstly: The quality characteristics of the orange when we eat it, whether it is delicious, sweet and fragrant, are determined by the variety and it is passed down from generation to generation. In Nghe An, there are currently many different varieties of oranges being grown, of which the most popular are Xa Doai oranges, V2 oranges (Valenxia) and Van Du oranges. Of which, Xa Doai oranges are the best quality, most delicious, sweet and fragrant.
After the Xa Doai orange variety is the V2 orange variety. The Van Du orange variety has large fruit, beautiful color, and is still delicious, but the quality and aroma cannot be compared to the Xa Doai orange and V2 orange varieties, but it is still on the list of Vinh orange brands.
Further away, Xa Doai oranges grown around limestone mountains in Son Tay commune (Huong Son district, Ha Tinh province) are also praised for being as delicious and fragrant as those grown in Doai commune.
Monday:Also the same as Xa Doai orange, V2 orange or Van Du orange. If grown in the land around limestone mountains, with a thick cultivation layer, the sweetness and aroma of the orange will be even sweeter and more fragrant. Because the soil around limestone mountains (rocky mountains) has a high content of calcium (Ca - Lime) and phosphorus (P2O5 - Phosphorus). Therefore, Bai Phu orange (Con Cuong); Xuan Thanh orange, 3/2 orange (Quy Hop), Dong Thanh orange, Minh Thanh (Yen Thanh); Song Con orange (Tan Ky) ... have delicious orange quality, famous throughout the country.

Someone asked: in Xa Doai there are no limestone mountains, why are the oranges grown here still sweet? Through research and survey of the soil of the land of Xa Doai, it shows that: This land is ancient alluvial soil, the cultivated soil layer is thick and digging down about 60, 70 cm or less, you will see a layer of decomposed clam, mussel, snail, and mussel shells. That proves that this land used to be a coastline, but later due to gradual sedimentation, the sea moved away. The layer of soil with many clam, mussel, snail, and mussel shells... provided a large amount of Ca (Lime) making the oranges sweeter in this area.
Tuesday:Even though there is a delicious, sweet and fragrant orange variety like Xa Doai orange, because it is a self-pollinating tree and has been planted for too long, it will certainly degenerate. In fact, Xa Doai orange variety is currently degenerating strongly. When orange trees degenerate, we will see: Orange trees quickly age and become stunted, the number of fruits on the tree gradually decreases over time, the fruits are small, the skin is thick, there are many seeds, the number of large and small fruits on each tree is not uniform, the quality of the fruit (fragrant, delicious and sweet) on the tree also gradually decreases.
Especially in growing areas far from limestone mountains, with poor investment in intensive cultivation (little lime and phosphate fertilizer), and seedlings that are continuously grafted for planting, the quality of the oranges will not be maintained for long.
Therefore, Nghe An orange trees with Vinh orange brand, to maintain a sustainable brand, need to do 3 things, which are: Restore, select and recreate the same Xa Doai orange variety that existed before. Second, plan the orange growing area suitable for the physiological needs of orange trees to have good quality oranges. Third, there must be a technical process for growing oranges suitable for orange trees and apply according to VietGAP standards to have clean oranges with traceability stamps.
