To make Vietnamese rice a leading brand in the world

This is one of the most important issues that was "dissected" at the conference to deploy the Project to develop the Vietnamese rice brand organized by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Southwest Steering Committee on October 20 in Rach Gia City (Kien Giang).

According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Vietnam is currently one of the three leading countries in the world in rice exports (along with Thailand and India), with an output of 6-8 million tons of rice, bringing in a turnover of 3-3.7 billion USD/year. However, paradoxically, Vietnam still does not have a national rice brand; Vietnamese rice is exported in large quantities but at low prices, and farmers' lives are still very difficult. Therefore, building a Vietnamese rice brand is necessary and very urgent.

The goal of the Project on developing the Vietnamese rice brand is that by 2020, the Vietnamese rice brand will be protected by intellectual property rights in the form of a certification mark in Vietnam and at least 50 other countries; at least 20% of exported rice will carry the Vietnamese rice brand and directly participate in the global value chain; by 2030, there will be a stable and sustainable rice export production area, making Vietnamese rice a world-leading brand in terms of quality and food safety...

However, the above project still has some issues that make businesses worried. According to Mr. Nguyen Tien Dung, Deputy General Director of Loc Troi Group, Vietnam currently does not have any rice quality testing centers that meet international standards. If businesses want to export to demanding markets that require high food hygiene and safety, they must send samples for testing abroad, which is both costly and time-consuming...
