Proposed 2 death sentences for inter-provincial drug trafficking ring

(Baonghean.vn)- On August 26, the Provincial People's Court opened a first-instance criminal trial to try the case of illegal drug trafficking, storage, and transportation against Nguyen The Ha (born 1963), Le Doan Chinh (born 1985), Duong Thi Be Lan (born 1985, Chinh's wife), all residing in Vo Liet commune, Thanh Chuong district, and Nguyen Ngoc Thuc (born 1972), residing in Hong Linh town, Ha Tinh province.

Defendant Nguyen The Ha was proposed to be sentenced to death for buying and selling 10 heroin cakes and 4kg of crystal meth.

Nguyen The Ha was prosecuted before the law for the acts of "Illegal trading of narcotics" and "Illegal possession of narcotics"; Le Doan Chinh for "Illegal trading of narcotics"; Duong Thi Be Lan for "Illegal transportation of narcotics"; Nguyen Ngoc Thuc for "Illegal possession of narcotics".

The investigation agency clarified that from September to November 2013, Tran Thanh Giang sold drugs to Nguyen The Ha three times, with a quantity of 10 heroin cakes and 4kg of crystal meth. After purchasing the drugs, Ha hired Le Doan Chinh to transport them to Saigon. Each time he transported drugs for Ha, Chinh was paid from 15-20 million VND. The third time, (December 1, 2013), Chinh and his wife transported drugs. Afraid of being discovered, the couple brought 10 heroin cakes and 2kg of crystal meth to Ha Tinh to hide them, then returned to Vinh city.

Nguyen Ngoc Thuc discovered the drugs that Chinh and his wife were hiding, so she brought them home, waiting for an opportunity to sell them. Chinh and Lan's actions were discovered and arrested by the investigation agency. Based on the testimony of Chinh and his wife, the investigation agency arrested Nguyen The Ha, Tran Thanh Giang and Nguyen Ngoc Thuc.

In September 2013, Tran Thanh Giang went to Nguyen The Ha's house in Hamlet 3, Thanh Thuy Commune, Thanh Chuong District, Nghe An Province to discuss the purchase and sale of drugs. Ha would connect with some Laotians to bring drugs to Thanh Thuy Commune to buy, then sell them to Giang to bring to Ho Chi Minh City for consumption. Nguyen The Ha agreed to tell Giang to prepare the money, and when someone brought it, they would proceed with the purchase and sale. During the investigation, Tran Thanh Giang died, so the investigation agency decided to suspend the case against this subject.

At the trial, the subjects did not admit their crimes. The representative of the Provincial People's Procuracy proposed the death penalty for Nguyen The Ha and Le Doan Chinh; Nguyen Ngoc Thuc was proposed a life sentence; Duong Thi Be Lan was proposed a 20-year prison sentence.

On the morning of August 27, the panel of judges began deliberating, however, due to many issues related to the case that need to be clarified, the court will announce the verdict on September 4./.
