Proposal to recognize the trademark for the Quy Chau incense-making village.
(Baonghean)After being recognized as the first traditional incense-making village in 2009 for Block 2, Tan Lac Town (Quy Chau), the Provincial People's Committee has since issued decisions recognizing four more traditional craft villages, including the incense-making craft in Quy Chau. To support and advise the continued development of the incense-making craft, in June 2012, the Incense-Making Association and the Management Board of the Incense-Making Cooperative of Tan Lac Town were established and launched.
After stabilizing its organizational structure, the Association and the Cooperative's Management Board, representing 98 incense-making households in the area, prepared a dossier to submit to the Intellectual Property Office for consideration of trademark, origin, and logo recognition for Quy Chau incense products and the craft. Based on the review, the Intellectual Property Office has generally agreed and issued a document providing guidance on supplementing the dossier in order to make a decision on recognition in the near future.
Quy Chau incense is about to have its own brand, logo, and origin.
Currently, the incense production industry in Tan Lac Town generates an annual revenue of 14-15 billion VND for households. While most incense products are sold within the province, some establishments are exploiting the brand and origin to sell substandard products. Therefore, if officially recognized, Quy Chau incense products and the industry will not only expand into markets outside the province but also contribute to improving product quality and preventing violations of trademarks and origins related to Quy Chau incense.
