Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the 9th session of the 13th National Assembly on the morning of May 25, National Assembly delegate Nguyen Anh Son, Head of the Nam Dinh delegation, said that he had asked the National Assembly to clearly express its views on the East Sea issue in the face of China's illegal island building, not simply announce that it had heard and known about the matter.

Mr. Nguyen Anh Son said that voters want National Assembly deputies, as representatives of the people's will and aspirations, to express that will resolutely and strongly.

“This session is the same, that is what voters want and I propose to add to the program, including an idea that the National Assembly clearly shows its attitude on this matter. Hopefully, next to me, there will be delegates who propose to discuss. This proposal helps delegates have official information, the more information the better because up to now many delegates still lack information, voters also lack information” – Mr. Nguyen Anh Son emphasized.

The delegate said that he had just made his second business trip to Truong Sa and noticed that the anxiety of voters on the island was increasing. Many voters who followed the official information channels found that China's actions were unacceptable.

Voters are asking how we will deal with this in the future. They want each National Assembly delegate in particular and the National Assembly in general to have a clearer, more decisive, and stronger attitude.

The delegate shared: “With what China has done, I am very worried that the 1988 scenario will repeat itself. Although analysts around the world say that a major military conflict is unlikely, deep down I am very worried.”

Responding to a reporter’s question, he said that most of the images reflecting China’s illegal island building come from foreign sources. Should Vietnam release the images collected by our Navy (if any) to the world? Mr. Nguyen Anh Son said: “In my opinion, we should officially and boldly raise issues if there is evidence.”

Previously, in the opening session of the 9th meeting, Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Nguyen Thien Nhan also affirmed: "People are very interested in and following the complicated political and security situation in the world and in the region. Voters and people are very worried and dissatisfied with China's increased activities of reclamation, filling and construction of works on the two archipelagos of Truong Sa and Hoang Sa of Vietnam."
