Good test, high differentiation

This year's exam requires candidates to complete two parts. The reading comprehension part (2 points) is an excerpt from the poem "My Grandmother" by Kao Son, requiring candidates to identify the main method of expression, point out the rhetorical device and find synonyms. The exam also requires candidates to express their thoughts on the grandmother's humane attitude in the poem.

The writing section (8 points) requires candidates to write a short paragraph about beliefs in life based on the idea "Belief creates strength". In the literary essay section, candidates are required to present their feelings about the wishes of poet Thanh Hai in 2 stanzas taken from the poem "Little Spring".

Teacher Le Thi Thanh Lan, Ha Huy Tap Secondary School, Vinh City commented: This is a common test for all candidates in the province, so this test is not too difficult, interesting, and suitable for students.

The test closely follows the structure of the sample test that the Department of Education and Training previously announced, so most candidates have been thoroughly trained in these types of questions.

Sentence 1 is a reading comprehension question, new material, conveying a message to the students. Sentence 3 was just learned in semester 2 so the students remember all the knowledge clearly. Sentence 2 is an age-appropriate argumentative question but it is very difficult to write well. This question creates high differentiation.

Candidates are confident because they have been carefully prepared.

Most of the candidates taking the exam this morning assessed that the exam was within their ability, did not challenge them, and was open to allow them to be creative and express their personal opinions.

Contestant Nguyen Tu Uyen, Cua Nam Secondary School, Vinh City shared: “I really like the social discussion section about faith in life. When we have faith in life, we have more motivation to strive and fulfill our dreams. We were also thoroughly trained by our teachers for this type of question, so we did the test quite confidently.”

Nguyen Quang Vinh, Truong Thi Secondary School, Vinh City, was one of the earliest candidates to arrive at the Huynh Thuc Khang High School exam site. He excitedly said: “The exam was not difficult, but this year there was a surprise: the literature essay section only gave 1 text, not 2 texts for candidates to choose from like previous years. I found the exam to be within my ability, the social essay section about beliefs in life was quite practical for students. To do well in this question, students must relate to real life in society to discuss the issues raised in the exam. With this year's exam, I think it will not be difficult for students. Many students can get a score of 8 points or more, and good students can get from 9 to 9.5 points.”

In Quy Chau district, after 120 minutes of taking the test, most of the 571 candidates were quite comfortable because the test was quite suitable.

Le Thi Thuy, Hoi Nga Boarding Secondary School, said: I did quite well on the Literature test this morning. I personally found the knowledge very suitable. This year's test was easier than last year's, as long as I had a solid grasp of the textbook knowledge, I could do well on the test.

At the Quy Hop 1 High School exam site, many candidates also finished their exams quite early. Many candidates were happy because they had reviewed the literature questions correctly.

Candidate Vo Hoai Thuong, Quy Hop town secondary school, said: The Literature exam this morning was quite similar to the types of questions I had reviewed. It only took me 2/3 of the time to finish.

As for candidate Dao Van Phuoc, from Tam Hop Secondary School, he confidently said: "This essay is not difficult, average students can do 60-70%. Because I have reviewed the exam format, I think I will get an 8."

One of the first candidates to step out of the exam site at Do Luong 1 High School, candidate Pham Phu Tuan Anh, Doi Cung Secondary School, expressed: “I did well in the Literature exam this morning, the content of the exam was quite easy, there were 2 parts of reading comprehension and writing that I did very smoothly. The other students in my exam room number 1 all did it well. I was a bit worried about the combination exam this afternoon, because it included Chemistry and English.”

According to a quick report from the Nghe An Department of Education and Training: This morning, 87 candidates were absent from the exam (4 candidates were absent with reasons); 2 candidates at Nghi Loc 4 Examination Council violated regulations by bringing documents into the exam room.

This afternoon, candidates will take the second exam – a combination exam (Chemistry, History and Foreign Language)./.
