Literature exam questions do not make it difficult for Nghe An students

After 120 minutes of testing, the candidates completed the Literature subject - the first subject of the 2023 high school graduation exam.

This year’s Literature exam has a familiar structure, including a Reading Comprehension section (3 points) and an Essay section (7 points). In the first part, in addition to the first 3 questions requiring candidates to identify the poetic form, vocabulary, and rhetorical devices, the remaining part requires candidates to draw lessons for themselves from the line of poetry “Everyone goes through their own storms”.

In the Writing section, in question 1 (2 points), the test requires candidates to write a paragraph of about 200 words presenting their thoughts on the need to balance emotions in life. In the Writing section, the test gives an excerpt from the work "The Beggar's Wife" by writer Kim Lan and requires candidates to analyze the passage and from there comment on writer Kim Lan's perspective on life as expressed in the excerpt.

At the exam site of Huynh Thuc Khang High School, candidate Le Viet Hoang was quite confident when taking the exam at the school where he studied and was one of the earliest candidates to leave.

Talking about this year's exam, Le Viet Hoang said that the work "The Beggar's Wife" is a familiar work in the high school program, so it has basically been reviewed and candidates only need to take advantage of the time to do the test. This candidate is taking the D block exam, applying for admission to English Pedagogy, so this is also his main subject. Therefore, with a fairly good test, he hopes to get 8 points to facilitate his university admission.

Also studying and taking the exam at Huynh Thuc Khang High School, candidate Nguyen Tai Tra My said: The basic exam questions were about familiar works, so most candidates in the exam room were happy to read the questions. However, compared to previous years, the questions were a bit strange, because previously, according to the structure, the Writing section was only worth 5 points and often required candidates to analyze the work.

However, this year, the Writing section has 2 ideas and a supporting clause, but that does not affect the test. This candidate also said that he likes this strange way of writing questions, because for candidates who choose Literature for university admission, this will be an advantage and help differentiate candidates. With a fairly good test, Nguyen Tai Tra My believes that he can get 9 points in the first test.

In the Social Essay section, contestant Bui Nguyen Linh San - taking the exam at Huynh Thuc Khang High School said that balancing emotions in life is necessary and appropriate, the topic is topical and suitable for students' age. In particular, this year society is also concerned about the issue of school violence in many forms, not only physical violence, but also mental violence. In her essay, she also pointed out that in life, everyone can encounter many changes. Therefore, knowing how to balance emotions will help you overcome difficulties.

At the Anh Son 1 High School exam site, most candidates left the exam room feeling relaxed and assessed the Literature exam as within their ability. Nguyen Cam Tu shared: This year's Literature exam was quite basic, within their ability, and completely within the knowledge that teachers have thoroughly reviewed. Although I focused on reviewing subjects in the Natural Science group and will use the scores of subjects in group A0 (Math, Physics, Chemistry) for university admission, I did not have any difficulty with the Literature exam.

Leaving the Literature exam room, candidate Nguyen Thi Trang, taking the exam at Anh Son 3 High School, breathed a sigh of relief and shared that she felt relieved and comfortable after finishing the first exam. This year's exam was not too difficult given the time she had spent studying beforehand. She really liked the reading comprehension and social commentary sections, the essay was very profound and interesting with the poem "Everyone goes through their own storm" by author Anh Ngoc.

Regarding the Writing section, the work “The Beggar’s Wife” by writer Kim Lan is a work that I have read fluently since before the exam started and really liked. I did quite well on the exam, I think I will get a good score or higher in this subject. The cool weather today also helps me feel more comfortable.

At the Thai Hoa High School exam site, after 120 minutes of taking the test, candidate Nguyen Minh Than shared: When holding the exam paper in hand, I felt secure, because this morning's Literature exam paper was within the content that the teachers gave me to review. In the Writing section alone, there were 2 questions. In the 5-point Writing question, candidate Than commented: "Analyze the excerpt, from which you can comment on the writer Kim Lan's perspective on life. This is a rather difficult question. For those who are studying social sciences, they will do better. For those who are studying natural sciences, I think the question requires a rather long analysis, so it is difficult to get a high score, especially for those who are subjective, careless or do not have a deep understanding of the work. I also did a basic job on this question. I am taking the D exam, wishing to enter the National Economics University, so I predict that my Literature score will be around 6 - 7 points."

As for candidate Le Thi Lan - a student at Tay Hieu High School, she said: “The reading comprehension part was quite easy, the questions were close to reality, and suitable for my ability. I was impressed with question 1 of the Writing section about writing a paragraph expressing my thoughts on life balance. I find this question very meaningful because I can relate to myself expressing my opinions and aspirations of youth, no matter how difficult the circumstances are, I will try to overcome them and balance my state, and harmonize my life around me.

As for the analysis of the excerpt "The Beggar's Wife", it is a bit difficult. I am taking the A block exam and want to enter the Banking Academy, so I do not aim to get a good score in Literature. However, with this exam, I am confident that I can get a good score."

Along with the whole country, this morning, 1,402 students taking the 2023 high school graduation exam at 3 examination councils in Quy Hop district finished the Literature exam with joy and excitement, because the Literature exam closely followed the review program and the structure of the exam questions of the candidates.

Vi Thi Yen Nhi took the exam at Quy Hop High School and shared: "The social essay section of the Literature test was quite good. Talking about my outlook on life, I think I will get the maximum score. Even though the literature essay section was not a hit, the test was not too difficult. My total score was around 8 points."

After finishing the Literature exam, candidates from Do Luong district left the exam room in an excited mood, most of them finished the exam. Dinh Thi Kim Anh, a student of class 12D5, Do Luong 1 High School, said: "The Literature exam includes a Reading Comprehension section and an Essay section, of which the Essay section has 2 essays, 1 social essay about the need to balance emotions in life, 1 literary essay analyzing the story "The Beggar's Wife" by author Kim Lan. With this Literature exam, I completed all the questions. But I did best in literary essay and reading comprehension. The question on social essay was a bit broad in topic. In the exam room, all my friends completed more than 3 pages."

Sharing the same excitement as Dinh Thi Kim Anh, Nguyen Trong Hung, class 12T4 happily said: "Although my revision was off track, I still finished all the test questions. I did best in the Reading Comprehension and Literary Essay sections when analyzing the excerpt from the work "The Beggar's Wife". I predict a score of over 6 points. My classmates also did well, many of them scored 4 points."

The Literature exam is familiar but difficult to get high scores, that is the opinion of many candidates after the Literature exam in the 2023 National High School Exam this morning at the Con Cuong High School exam site.

As a high school student, candidate Thai Lam Anh - a student of Con Cuong High School, said that although it is easy to get an average score in this Literature test, it is difficult to get a high score. Commenting on the Reading Comprehension section (3 points) with an excerpt, Lam Anh said that this is a good question, however, if any candidate has a rote learning method, lacks life skills and has limited social knowledge, it will be very difficult to present and answer all the requirements of the question. In this section, I hope to get 1.5 points.

At the Quy Chau High School exam site, there are 18 exam rooms, with over 470 candidates completing the Literature exam of the 2023 high school exam.

Candidates took part in the exam with a ready mindset, so they proactively went to the exam room early. The volunteer team, which consisted of members of the Youth Union, arrived early to provide drinking water, help deposit students’ belongings, and help look after students’ vehicles.

After 120 minutes of taking the test, many candidates left the exam room quite satisfied with the test and this year's exam. Candidate Nguyen Huu Nhat Anh from Quy Chau High School shared: This year's Literature exam was in line with the structure of the Ministry's survey exam.

With a structure of 2 parts: Reading and Writing. Reading (3 points) with an excerpt from the poem "Going through the storm" by author Anh Ngoc, requires candidates to write a social argument "From the poet's reflections, draw lessons for the reason to live for yourself". She also shared: "In the Writing (7 points), question 1 only has 2 points but I find it very interesting because I get to write thoughts about "knowing how to balance emotions in life".

Question 2 of the Writing section, the test requires analyzing an excerpt of the short story "The Beggar's Wife" by writer Kim Lan, from which to comment on the writer Kim Lan's perspective on life as expressed in the excerpt. I basically did well. In the Literature test, I also shared that I did well, achieving about 92% or more.

Commenting on the Literature exam, Mr. Dang Huu Cong - Literature teacher at Co Do High School, assessed that this year's exam was relatively suitable for candidates, especially the Reading Comprehension and Social Discussion sections, both of which are topics close to students, talking about looking at life in an optimistic way and believing in a brighter future. However, the exam is still safe, not groundbreaking. "Regarding the overall score, it is difficult to predict because it depends on the ability of each student, however, with some questions at the beginning of the exam, I think most of the students will get a good score," Mr. Cong added.

According to the report of Nghe An Examination Council, in the first subject (Literature), the 2023 high school graduation exam, the whole province has 36,465 candidates registered to take the exam, the total number of candidates absent without reason is 56 students. No candidates violated the exam regulations. No unusual incidents occurred. The exam took place normally, safely, and in accordance with regulations.
