(Baonghean.vn) - This year's entrance exam to Phan Boi Chau High School for the Gifted was assessed by many candidates as difficult and long. However, on the other hand, some candidates were quite excited, saying that the exam was good, helping students develop their abilities and differentiate students.

Candidates "complain" that the English test is difficult and long

At exactly 5:00 p.m. on June 8, the candidates finished their entrance exams.Phan Boi Chau High School for the Gifted. With the special nature of this exam, even though the time was up, not many candidates finished the exam early. After 10 minutes of the bell ringing, candidates started to leave the exam room and most of them stayed in the school yard to discuss their answers with their friends.

From Yen Thanh district, student Nguyen Minh Trang - Phuc Thanh Secondary School, who is taking part in the English specialized class, said: I took part in the provincial exam and won the Encouragement Prize. However, this year's specialized exam was too difficult for me and I was not really confident in my work. Even though I filled in all the reading questions, I guessed many questions.

Many candidates taking the English major exam said that the test was difficult, long and many of them could not complete the test. Student Le Thi Anh Tho - Tra Lan Secondary School also said: I think that the English major exam was difficult, which was expected, but this year's exam had both vocabulary and grammar sections that were difficult and most of them were in the parts that I had not reviewed much.

A group of students from Dang Thai Mai Secondary School, including students like Nhat Nam, despite having an IELTS 7.5 certificate and having been admitted to the English major class before, were not satisfied with their test. This candidate said: The test was very long, the reading questions were divided into 3 parts, the first part was choosing a title, the second part was taking information from the text to fill in the blanks, and the third part was answering true or false. I think the test was quite difficult to understand and the writer needed a lot of knowledge to be able to do it. I was also a bit lost in the writing, which took up a lot of time, so I missed some questions, including the reading.

Many candidates are not confident in their test.

Although she had participated in the provincial excellent student exam and won second prize in Geography, student Le Nguyen Phuong Thao - Cao Xuan Huy Secondary School (Dien Chau) was still very sad: This year's exam had 5 questions, I finished all of them but still did not feel satisfied because the exam was too long and I did not have enough time to complete the exam in the best way. In fact, I think I only did about 60 - 70% well. Among the questions, I was a bit regretful about question 4 when comparing the hydropower industry between the midlands and mountainous areas of the North and the Central Highlands. Although this was a question based on Atlas, I did not write all the ideas.

Although they did not complete the exam in the best way, the group of students from Tan Ky district were still satisfied because they had a memorable experience in the specialized exam. Photo: My Ha

In History, student Pham Thai Ngoc Diep - Hung Binh Secondary School (Vinh City) although determined not to study by rote and review all knowledge, said: The test was not too difficult, but there were some questions that I did not understand at first and it took me a while to identify the question such as the outstanding features of the scientific and technological revolution. I also think that many students will forget the question about the achievements in the development of the Vietnamese people's rear from 1950 - 1953 and will not be able to do it in time.

Candidate Nguyen Minh Hien - Truong Thi Secondary School (Vinh City) said that the History exam was "quite short", meaning the questions did not cover a whole historical period or major movement, but focused on specific events and issues. This exam required candidates to write accurately and with focus.

Of the 4 questions in the History exam, according to Minh Hien, the most difficult is question 4 (5 points) about the first session of the 6th National Assembly (1976). With this question, candidates must identify and present the decisions of the session. Next, analyze the historical significance of those decisions. This candidate said that he did quite well on the test and hopes to be admitted to the History major class as desired.

The subject that many candidates highly appreciated this year was Literature, as many candidates said that the questions were good, open, and helped candidates develop their full potential. Regarding the question of the social argument section discussing "a factor that I think is necessary in the process of human maturity", candidate Hoang Nguyen Thao My - Ly Nhat Quang Secondary School (Do Luong) said: I think that the two most important factors are strength and courage to overcome difficulties. I gave many examples to prove this.

Regarding this question, another candidate from Bach Lieu Secondary School (Yen Thanh) said: I really like this year's Literature exam, it is better than the provincial excellent student exam because it fully demonstrates the value and function of literature.

Previously, in the Literature Essay section, from the statement "Art is the place that keeps people's souls from becoming callous but always fresh, sensitive to the beauty of each leaf, dew drop, a moonlight, a ray of sunlight, and therefore never cold, indifferent to human fate", the question asked candidates to "use their experience of some literary works in the 9th grade Literature program, present their thoughts on the above statement", this candidate shared that "the question made me interested in doing the test". At first, when reading the question, I was quite hesitant because I didn't know which work to choose to prove. I intended to choose the work Moonlight (Nguyen Duy), but then I chose the works Sang thu (Huu Thinh) and Truyen Kieu (Nguyen Du) to analyze. These are two works that show the author's sophistication, philosophical thoughts about human life, and the author's humanity towards the two Vuong sisters.

In the Social Essay section, this candidate also shared: I think that the most important factor in the process of growing up is perseverance and in life, if you encounter difficulties, if you do not have perseverance, you will not be able to overcome yourself. I myself used to be a student who was very passionate about Literature and tried to participate in the provincial competition but was not successful. But I did not get discouraged because of that, I decided to register for the exam at Phan Boi Chau High School for the Gifted to find opportunities for myself.
