'Proposal to abolish RON 95 gasoline is forcing users'
Price expert Ngo Tri Long said that biofuel itself is currently not really attractive in terms of both price and quality.
Proposal to stop selling RON 95 gasoline was proposed by the Company's leaders. The recent proposal by Saigon Petro Limited Company did not receive consensus from consumers and experts.
In 12,000 readers participating in VnExpress's surveyon the choice "should or should not stop selling RON 95 gasoline",87% think that we should not completely switch to using biofuel.
Besides, many opinions say that there are currently many vehicles whose manufacturers recommend using RON95 gasoline."If we stop selling this type of gasoline and switch to using biofuel, who will be responsible and compensate for engine problems?", Mr. Nguyen Son (Thanh Xuan - Hanoi) wondered.
Sharing with PV, Mr. Ngo Tri Long - a price expert also acknowledged that it is not possible to eliminate RON 95 gasoline like that. Reiterating the view that "there should not be a policy that imposes or forces the right to buy and sell", Mr. Ngo Tri Long commented that managers need to have a policy to make the price of E5 RON 92 gasoline truly attractive, along with guaranteed quality."Operators need to calculate and consider prices and people's right to choose, and should not impose buying and selling rights on the market," the expert emphasized.
He analyzed that the quality of E5 RON 92 biofuel has been a question mark in recent times, causing consumers to not trust this product. This is also the reason why the rate of biofuel use has increased compared to before, but still only accounts for 42% instead of overwhelming.

On the other hand, currently only Tung Lam Company Limited is the only unit that produces E100 alcohol - the raw material used to blend bio-fuel. If there is only this supply source, the price of raw materials will be difficult to compete and it will be difficult to ensure enough supply if mineral gasoline is completely abandoned.
"High costs and poor quality will make it difficult for blended biofuels to compete. E5 RON92 gasoline has not yet been accepted by the majority of users, so the proposal to use E5 RON95 is impossible," said Mr. Long.
This expert agrees with the proposal of some petroleum wholesalers to increase the difference between the selling price of bio-fuel and RON95 to 1,800-2,000 VND per liter, instead of 1,500-1,600 VND as present. In addition, reducing the import tax on E100 from 18% to 15% to increase the supply of input materials for blending, according to him, could be a good suggestion.
Meanwhile, the proposal to switch entirely to biofuel received support from businesses.
Mr. Nguyen Van Tiu - Director of Tu Luc 1 Petroleum Company, one of 29 petroleum trading centers, said that gradually eliminating mineral gasoline in the market is reasonable. "Many countries currently use all biofuel, we are too far behind and need to boldly eliminate it for the purpose of protecting the environment," he said.
This person also believes that there should be no concern about the supply of E100, because when bio-fuel production increases, the raw material production plant will operate at full capacity. In addition, it is recommended to reduce the import tax on E100 to 15% if approved by the operator.Through this, businesses will import more without worrying about increasing costs. The only source of production of this type of raw material in the country also has difficulty arbitrarily increasing the selling price.
On the side of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Deputy Minister Do Thang Hai said that the proposal to abolish RON 95 gasoline is currently the opinion of businesses. The leaders of the Ministry of Industry and Trade affirmed that they will calculate, consider and report to the Government for comments.
