By 2015, 100% of provincial hospitals and above must treat medical waste.
(Baonghean) - The Prime Minister signed and issued Decision No. 2038/QD-TTg dated November 15, 2011 approving the Master Plan on Medical Waste Treatment for the 2011-2015 period and orientation to 2020.
The goal by 2015 is that 100% of central medical facilities, 70% of provincial medical facilities, 50% of district medical facilities and 100% of private medical facilities will treat wastewater to ensure national environmental standards and technical regulations; 30% of the remaining provincial medical facilities, 50% of the remaining district medical facilities and 100% of medical stations will treat hazardous wastewater at these facilities before discharging into the environment.
Regarding solid waste, the goal by 2015 is to treat 100% of solid waste at both central and provincial health facilities. 100% of health facilities with hazardous emissions must treat their emissions to ensure national environmental standards and technical regulations.
The Prime Minister also requested investment in and construction of a medical waste treatment system to fundamentally overcome environmental pollution at medical facilities at both central and local levels; enhance the capacity to monitor and assess the level of environmental pollution at medical facilities as a basis for developing plans to gradually overcome environmental pollution at medical facilities...
This Decision comes into force from the date of signing and promulgation.
