Street lights turn on automatically when vehicles approach
Danish scientists have just discovered smart street light technology to help turn Copenhagen into the world's first carbon-neutral city by 2025 and save electricity.

Street lights are being researched to automatically adjust their brightness. |
The lamp posts are equipped with sensors so that they only turn on when they detect pedestrians or vehicles approaching. This technology allows the street lights to be dimmed when there are no vehicles or people passing by. However, the driver's vision is always guaranteed to make them feel safe. Sensors monitor traffic density, air quality, noise, and weather and adjust the brightness to the most reasonable level to reduce costs and emissions while still ensuring the necessary light source. "The research team has installed over 280 signal posts with 50 different solutions and 10 different power management systems. We also have a lot of on/off sensors in this area," said Kim Brostrom, chief engineer at the Danish Outdoor Lighting Laboratory.
In addition, some traffic lights are equipped with wind or solar generators. Scientists estimate that by installing smart traffic lights throughout the city, Copenhagen has saved up to 85% of urban lighting costs, according to VOA.
In particular, this system can be easily controlled by connecting to a tablet or smartphone.
