Brisk walking not only boosts memory but also improves brain function.

Dr Laura Phipps of Alzheimer's Research UK said there was currently no way to prevent dementia, but the best evidence suggests that regular exercise, a healthy diet, not smoking and keeping blood pressure and cholesterol under control can help reduce the risk of the disease, the Daily Express reported.

Researchers surveyed a group of volunteers aged 60-88, half of whom had mild cognitive impairment. All were asked to walk on a treadmill.
Subsequent brain scans showed that the walkers' brain function and memory improved.

The study was published in the Journal of Alzheimer's Disease.
