(Baonghean.vn) - The Con Diep archaeological site in Quynh Van commune, Quynh Luu district is being encroached upon by raising chickens, growing vegetables, dumping vehicles and building materials.

The archaeological site of Con Diep was recognized as a typical site of the Neolithic period with historical value associated with the culture of the ancient Vietnamese people, and was included in history textbooks. After the recognition of the site, the Government approved the project of building a new Van market for Quynh Van commune to preserve the archaeological site in accordance with the law.

The archaeological site has not been invested in synchronously and is still unfinished.

In February 2014, the new Van market was completed, all business activities of traders were moved to the new market area, returning the land and the current state of the archaeological site.

However, due to the lack of proper attention and investment, and the limited sense of responsibility of local people to protect and preserve the relics, the Con Diep Archaeological Site is currently abandoned and turned into a landfill.

People freely raise chickens and grow vegetables in the archaeological site.

The protective wall is still unfinished and has no main gate, so cattle often graze in this area. Some households living near the relic site have arbitrarily occupied the frontage to park trucks and gather construction materials such as sand, meter pipes, and cement pipes. They even built chicken coops and planted vegetables right on the land of the archaeological site.

Although Quynh Van commune has posted signs prohibiting violations, for immediate benefits, households still disregard the law and carry out prohibitions right under the prohibition signs, causing damage to the site's landscape and loss of aesthetics for passing tourists.

Mặc dù có biển cấm nhưng tình trạng xâm hại vẫn diễn ra.
Despite the no-entry signs, encroachment still occurs.

In order to promote the historical value of the archaeological site, authorities at all levels need to coordinate with relevant agencies to promptly handle violations and restore order to the landscape of the site. In particular, there needs to be a worthy investment plan to protect and restore the relics effectively and sustainably./.
