Going up worthy of revolutionary tradition

(Baonghean) - Quynh Thuan is a coastal commune, 12 km northeast of the district center, and is one of the revolutionary cradles of Quynh Luu district. Here, since 1927, one of the first bases of the Party was established. Promoting the revolutionary tradition, the Party Committee and people of Quynh Thuan strive to build a rich, beautiful and civilized homeland.

On April 20, 1930, the Quynh Luu District Party Committee was established, under the direction of the District Party Committee, the Party Cell in Quynh Thuan Commune was established 1 month later (May 1930). Immediately after its establishment, the Party Cell gathered forces, led the movement, organized people's forces to participate in the struggle to demand an increase in salt prices, coordinated with the workers and farmers of Truong Thi, Ben Thuy (Vinh) to fight and improve their lives. A typical example was the struggle on June 20, 1930, when thousands of salt workers from villages gathered at Dinh market, Thanh Doai village to demonstrate and protest against the injustice that salt workers had to endure.

Tam Mai Communal House - A revolutionary historical relic is where people gathered to protest and seize power in 1945.

On February 4, 1931, when the Quynh Luu District Party Committee launched a district-wide demonstration, Quynh Thuan was one of four major demonstration sites. Thousands of salt workers from Thanh Doai village gathered at Ba Ba mountain area, demonstrating and shouting the slogan "Anti-feudal colonialism! Support the Vinh - Truong Thi - Ben Thuy worker-farmer movement in the Nghe - Tinh Soviet!". After this struggle, the enemy relentlessly hunted down and 60 people from Quynh Thuan were captured and interrogated. Comrades Dao Quang and Dao Vi - two outstanding sons of the commune who were protest leaders were executed by the enemy without trial (the two comrades were recognized as martyrs in 1930 - 1931). In August 1945, responding to the call of the District Uprising Committee, thousands of people gathered with red flags with yellow stars to go to Doai and Tam Mai communal houses, to the village chief's house to collect the seal. The Uprising Committee announced the abolition of the old government and the return of power to the people.

When the French colonialists returned to invade, the people of Quynh Thuan continued to contribute a lot of manpower and resources to the frontline. Along with building a strong rear, helping laborers practice, caring for wounded soldiers, supporting the resistance with hundreds of taels of silver, 18.6 tons of rice, national bonds; nearly 1,500 children joined the army, youth volunteers and laborers on the frontline. In addition to contributing manpower and resources, the people of Quynh Thuan commune were clever and brave in fighting the enemy who landed to loot the area. Although the commune guerrilla platoon had only been established for 2 years, on October 5, 1949, it intercepted more than 1,000 French troops landing in Quynh Luu through Lach Quen.

With courage and intelligence, the army and people of Quynh Thuan captured dozens of French soldiers and paid for their crimes. Many examples of steadfast fighting and heroic sacrifice contributed to glorifying the revolutionary tradition of their homeland. Typical examples are Commune Team Leader Ho Trac, Militia Platoon Leader Tran Tuat and 3 guerrillas - martyrs Le Kieu, Le Diem, Dam Kien. In the anti-sweep battle and the campaigns of the resistance war against the French, 19 people of Quynh Thuan sacrificed their lives and 6 wounded and sick soldiers...

During the resistance war against the US, responding to the call of the Party and Uncle Ho to all for the great frontline, along with emulation in labor and production to ensure "not a pound of rice is missing, not a soldier is missing", the Party Committee of the commune had many policies and solutions to proactively prevent and fight back the enemy in the war of destruction in the North. The commune's militia platoon with 25 people was divided into 2 batteries and 1 first aid and ambulance squad and achieved many outstanding feats. Along with helping people proactively prevent American bombs, the commune directed people to dig shelters along inter-village and inter-commune roads; organized people's evacuation during peak periods. In total, the commune mobilized thousands of working days to dig and fill traffic trenches along both sides of the 12 km long road, built nearly 1,000 solid A-shaped tunnels and 185 A-shaped tunnels along the roads, in the fields, and around schools; Digging 2 tunnels in the mountain, building 15 fortification systems for the commune militia to be on duty to defend against air attacks...

Thanks to the solid defense, the army and people of Quynh Thuan achieved many resounding victories. Being a coastal area where many enemy aircraft "passed by", from 1964 to December 1972, Quynh Thuan had to endure 378 artillery attacks, hundreds of tons of bombs and thousands of artillery rounds from the US, killing 149 people, injuring 66; villages were devastated, crops and property were lost... With the spirit of aiming straight at the enemy, on July 20, 1966, with only machine guns as weapons, the Commune's combat platoon destroyed an AD6 aircraft; cooperated with units in Hoang Mai to shoot down an American A4D aircraft; cleared dozens of bombs and mines. In particular, on October 29, 1972, the commune militia platoon with 12.7 mm guns cleverly and bravely shot down an American F8 jet and damaged another one right in the sky of their homeland, inspiring the army and people at that time.

With the above outstanding feats, the Commune Militia Platoon was twice awarded the Second Class Military Exploit Medal by the State; comrades Bui Huy Vuong, To Huy Don, and Dao Kim were awarded the Third Class Military Exploit Medal by the Government, and 13 others were awarded Certificates of Merit by the Provincial Administrative Committee. During the resistance war against the US, 109 children of the commune heroically sacrificed their lives and hundreds were injured; 17 families had 2 children who were martyrs.

During the period of rebuilding the homeland after the war, along with solutions to heal the wounds of war, develop the economy to improve people's lives, the commune continued to contribute to the war to protect the southwestern and northern borders. To protect the Fatherland, 7 soldiers, children of the commune, heroically sacrificed. Through the periods, the army and people of Quynh Thuan have united to successfully carry out the strategic tasks assigned by superiors. In particular, in the past 5 years, the average economic growth rate was about 14.9%; the average income per capita in 2015 reached nearly 22.43 million VND.

The whole commune has 25% of rich households, nearly 70% of well-off and average households, and the number of poor households has decreased to 6%. In addition to the traditional salt production profession, the commune has formed a number of occupations, plants, and animals that bring high income such as clam and shrimp farming models; the marine economy and the capacity of fishery logistics services have been gradually strengthened. With the attention of the State and the support of resources from the people, the commune's essential technical infrastructure such as electricity, roads, schools, government headquarters and hamlets have been constantly improved and upgraded. Along with the commune Party Committee being recognized as clean and strong for many consecutive years, the Fatherland Front, unions and hamlet political system have continuously led the emulation movement of the cluster and district.

Up to now, 9/9 villages have been recognized as Cultural Villages; 3 schools have been recognized as meeting national standards, of which the primary school has met national standards in phase 2; in 2014, the commune has met national standards on health in the period 2011 - 2020. Up to now, the commune has met 13/19 new rural criteria. Besides maintaining political stability, ensuring safe and combat-ready facilities, the cultural and spiritual life and intellectual level of the people have been increasingly improved. After the war, the commune had 13 mothers awarded the title of Vietnamese Heroic Mother by the State; 1 Hero of the Armed Forces. Up to now, the commune has 1 person who was awarded the title of Major General and dozens of other senior officers, 11 PhDs and over 500 children who are cadres, doctors, engineers, bachelors...

With great contributions in the two resistance wars; at the same time continuing to maintain the tradition of solidarity and unanimity in building the homeland in the renovation period, in December 2014, the Party Committee, government and people of Quynh Thuan commune were awarded the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces by the President.

Comrade Tran Van Trung, Secretary of the Quynh Thuan Commune Party Committee, said: The commune was awarded the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces and held a ceremony to receive the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces on the occasion of the 85th anniversary of the establishment of the Commune Party Committee (May 2015). This is a major political event for the commune; at the same time, it is a source of great spiritual encouragement. It is not only a recognition of the Party and the State but also an opportunity to review the revolutionary tradition of the homeland to educate the ideals and pride of the generation of Quynh Thuan children. Promoting the revolutionary tradition of the homeland, the Party Committee, government and people of the commune are determined to strive, overcome difficulties to successfully implement the goals set out in the Resolution of the Commune Party Congress for the 2015-2020 term; strive to become a well-off commune of Quynh Luu district and soon complete the goal of reaching the new rural destination.
