At present, Quang Tri has nearly 300 cattle and buffalo infected with foot-and-mouth disease in 7 districts, towns and cities. Notably, two new outbreaks in Linh Thuong commune (Gio Linh district) and Vinh Truong (Vinh Linh district) have infected 43 cattle and buffalo.

These are two mountainous communes, mainly inhabited by ethnic minorities, so customs and practices are still backward. They mainly raise cattle and buffaloes on the hills, making it difficult to control diseases.

The Quang Tri Province Veterinary Department said that the initial cause of the two outbreaks was determined to be people grazing cattle along the Ho Chi Minh Highway and trucks transporting livestock after storms No. 10 and 11 passed, causing the disease to spread.
