Blue ear pig disease is complicated
At the meeting of the National Steering Committee for Avian Influenza Prevention and Control on the afternoon of October 30, a representative of the Department of Animal Health (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development) said that the blue ear disease continued to spread in key pig farming areas such as Phu Yen, Khanh Hoa, Thai Binh, and Long An provinces.
Thus, there have been 6 provinces with the recurrence of blue ear disease, with a total of 3,200 dead and destroyed pigs out of more than 6,000 infected pigs.

"Regarding the blue ear disease, we must act decisively, not subjectively. If we do not announce the epidemic and do not support the destruction, farmers will certainly sell well and the epidemic will spread," Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Diep Kinh Tan emphasized.
The main reason is the subjective mentality of livestock breeders, the failure to prevent smuggling across the border and the increase in livestock farming activities to serve year-end consumption needs.
Regarding the avian influenza epidemic, Mr. Dam Xuan Thanh, Deputy Director of the Department of Animal Health, said that the Department is building an epidemiological map and publishing information on the strains of H5N1 avian influenza virus circulating in the field and the effectiveness of avian influenza vaccines so that localities can proactively fight the epidemic.
Deputy Minister Diep Kinh Tan warned that livestock and poultry diseases could occur at any time in the last months of the year. At the same time, he requested members of the Steering Committee to urgently count the number of vaccines and supplement reserves to promptly respond to outbreaks.
