The Department of Animal Health of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development said that after a long period of calm, the blue ear disease is now breaking out again, threatening people's livestock farming activities.

There are 5 provinces with blue ear disease: Long An, Tien Giang, Tay Ninh, Soc Trang and Quang Nam.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has just sent a telegram to the above provinces requesting them to focus on preventing blue ear disease, ensuring livestock maintenance, and proactively managing food supply.

The Ministry also requested the above provinces to urgently declare the epidemic, destroy infected pigs, disinfect the epidemic area, set up quarantine checkpoints, and ban the transportation of pigs out of the epidemic area to limit the spread of the disease.

The above 5 provinces have strengthened quarantine work in transport and at the source. In particular, it is necessary to use the blue ear vaccine to prevent and contain the outbreak and strictly prohibit the slaughter and sale of pork in the epidemic area.

In Quang Nam, by October 3, in the area of 4 villages Tu Cau, Tu Ngan, Tu Ha, Vien Trung (Dien Ngoc commune, Dien Ban district), there were nearly 400 infected pigs, the authorities have forced the destruction of more than 200 pigs.

Faced with the above situation, the Chairman of the People's Committee of Quang Nam province urgently directed relevant sectors and local authorities to deploy urgent measures to contain the epidemic.

In Dien Ban district, veterinary forces coordinated with local authorities to urgently provide more than 100 liters of Benkocid chemicals and many motor pumps to regularly clean barns, spray disinfectants, and sterilize, especially in areas where epidemics are occurring, old outbreaks, and areas threatened by epidemics...

On the main roads, local authorities have hung banners warning about the epidemic. The main traffic routes connecting Dien Ngoc with Hoa Quy commune (Da Nang city) and Dien Thang Bac and Dien Nam Bac communes (Dien Ban) have many checkpoints with permanent forces to tighten control and promptly prevent the transportation of sick pigs out of the epidemic area.

In Quang Ngai, according to statistics from Son Tinh and Binh Son districts, on October 3, bird flu broke out widely with over 23,000 poultry dead and destroyed, of which Son Tinh district had over 19,300.

The Department of Animal Health has supported the province with 500,000 doses of avian influenza vaccine so that localities can carry out vaccinations to contain outbreaks in districts. However, according to the Quang Ngai Veterinary Department, in 2011 the whole province planned to vaccinate over 1.2 million poultry, but the Department of Animal Health has only supported less than half. The province continues to request the Central Government to support about 1 million doses of avian influenza vaccine to serve the vaccination against the epidemic.
