African swine fever has re-emerged in Dien Chau district.
(Baonghean.vn) - African swine fever has re-emerged in several communes of Dien Chau district during the Tet holiday.
According to an announcement from the People's Committee of Dien Kim commune, Dien Chau district, on January 30th, 7 sows and 18 piglets died in the commune. The outbreak first appeared in several households in Dai Thanh, Hoang Chau, Thai Thinh, and Phu Thanh hamlets.

According to test results from the Regional Veterinary Sub-Department III, samples taken from dead pigs belonging to Mr. Nguyen Lien Tiep, Hoang Chau hamlet, Dien Kim commune, tested positive for African swine fever.
On February 1st, the Dien Thanh Border Guard Station, Nghe An Border Guard Command, coordinated with local authorities, the Dien Chau District Health Center, and other forces to conduct awareness campaigns and implement measures to prevent and control African swine fever in Dien Kim commune.
Authorities are strictly prohibiting the transportation of pigs and pork products into and out of the affected area. Households raising pigs should monitor their animals regularly to promptly detect any unusual symptoms and report them to the authorities.

According to Mr. Ngo Duc Quynh, Deputy Head of the Department of Livestock and Veterinary Medicine, during the Tet holiday, although no major outbreaks occurred, five new outbreaks were recorded in five communes across three districts: Nghi Truong (Nghi Loc); Quynh Xuan and Quynh Lien (Hoang Mai town); and Dien Cat, Dien Loc, and Dien Kim (Dien Chau). Although each outbreak involved only one or two pigs, it indicates that the virus is still present in the population.
"The weather is unpredictable, and people have just slaughtered a lot of pigs for the Lunar New Year, so after the holiday, the disease could spread rapidly. Households raising pigs need to use lime powder and disinfectants to spray and sprinkle inside and outside the pigpens."
According to data from the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine, as of January 31, 2020, African swine fever had occurred in 368 communes in Nghe An province. Of these, 350 communes have declared the outbreak over, while 18 communes in 8 districts (Quynh Luu, Thanh Chuong, Nghi Loc, Dien Chau, Anh Son, Yen Thanh, Nghia Dan, and Hoang Mai town) have not yet passed the 30-day mark of the outbreak. A total of over 94,000 pigs have been culled.
