New points in the national excellent student exam take effect from November 25, 2023
The Ministry of Education and Training has just issued Circular No. 17/2023/TT - BGDĐT dated October 10, 2023 on the new regulations for national excellent student exams, which eliminates the practical exam session for Physics, Chemistry and Biology.
Accordingly, the regulations for the national excellent student exam this time have some very notable new points.
Skip the practical exam in the national excellent student exam
Specifically, regarding the number of candidates, the new circular unifies the regulations for each unit to have a maximum of 10 candidates; Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi have 20 candidates... In addition, the participation of higher education institutions and the Department of Education and Training in the stages of organizing the exam is increased.
At the same time, continue to maintain the organization of practical exams in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology in the International Olympic Team Selection Exam. For the National Excellent Student Exam, instead of organizing practical exams, the exam questions in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology will have content that requires candidates to solve using knowledge related to experimental and practical skills.

In addition, the Ministry of Education and Training also increased the prize ratio of the national excellent student selection exam to ensure compliance with the regulations of regional and international Olympics. Accordingly, 60% of the prizes are from the Encouragement Prize and above (previous years were 50%); in which, the total number of First, Second, Third prizes does not exceed 60% of the total prizes, the number of First prizes does not exceed 5% of the total prizes.
The Ministry of Education and Training also added a Certificate in the exam. Specifically, the Certificate of students participating in the national high school excellent student exam is issued to candidates who participate in the exam but do not win a prize. According to the Ministry of Education and Training, this helps students have long-term personal information about participating in the exam.
This new Circular will replace the previous Circular 56/2011-TT/Ministry of Education and Training, effective from November 25, 2023./.
