New points in determining the entrance score threshold for universities and colleges this year
The basis for determining the threshold score is based on test score data from the number of candidates registering for university and college admission.
It is expected that this afternoon (July 28), the Ministry of Education and Training will hold a meeting on the threshold score for university and college admissions this year. On that basis, schools will set the admission scores.
According to Deputy Minister of Education and Training Bui Van Ga, the new point in determining the threshold score this year is that candidates taking the exam only for high school graduation will not be included in the statistics.

Expected benchmark scores of branded universities will not be lower than in 2014. |
The basis for determining the threshold to ensure input quality this year is not based on all candidates taking the National High School Exam, but only on test score data from the number of candidates registering for university and college admission.
In addition, this year, in addition to the five traditional exam blocks A, A1, B, C, D, there are many new admission combinations. The Department of Testing and Education Quality Assessment has conducted statistics on exam scores according to the traditional exam blocks, as well as the new admission combinations proposed by the schools.
There are about 15 most popular admission combinations applied by many schools in university and college admissions this year. The Council will analyze different factors to come up with general principles, on that basis determining the threshold to ensure input quality for admission combinations.
According to experts, the benchmark scores of the “top” schools will certainly be higher than previous years. The reason is that this year’s National High School Exam is more difficult than the High School Graduation Exam and easier than the University and College Entrance Exams of previous years. Therefore, the expected scores will be 1-1.5 points higher than in 2014.
Besides, because students already know their exam scores, they will be more likely to confidently apply to prestigious schools./
