Vinh University currently has 3 units specializing in training in information technology. The first is the Specialized High School, which trains high school students specializing in Mathematics, Physics, Information Technology, Chemistry and Foreign Languages for the North Central provinces.
The first IT class was opened in 1996 and every year about 30 high school students who love IT take the entrance exam for these classes. Students of IT classes participate and achieve high results in national and international competitions for excellent students. Most of them have studied IT at prestigious universities in Vietnam and abroad after graduation.
Faculty of Information Technology, established in October 1998, is currently training more than 800 information technology students in 3 majors: Information Technology Pedagogy, Bachelor of Information Technology and Information Technology Engineering. In addition, the Faculty of Information Technology is collaborating with the Military Technical Academy to open master's training classes in Information Technology.
After more than 10 years of development and growth, the Faculty of Information Technology has trained and nurtured thousands of students, many of whom have achieved success and held important positions in government agencies, departments and enterprises. The school also has a Foreign Language and Information Technology Center that trains and nurtures foreign languages and information technology according to the Ministry's training programs and international certificates. The Center continuously opens foreign language and information technology training classes every day of the week.
Vinh University has allocated a lot of funds for investment in upgrading IT facilities. In particular, with a budget of 2.6 million USD supported by the World Bank, in 2010, Vinh University invested in rebuilding the entire IT infrastructure of the University. The Faculty of Information Technology has also invested in 10 computer practice rooms, 4 multimedia classrooms, 1 microprocessor laboratory, and 1 network technology laboratory. The practice rooms and laboratories are planned and invested in a modern and synchronous manner to fully meet the learning and research needs of students. Most of the solid classrooms are invested in projectors and synchronous sound equipment.
Vinh University currently has more than 40 staff members specializing in IT, including 1 Associate Professor, 4 PhDs, and 26 Masters, who are engaged in training and professional development. Staff training is always a focus of the university and the Faculty of Information Technology. Of the 32 staff members currently in the Faculty of Information Technology, 11 are PhD students, including 7 who are PhD students in countries with developed IT industries such as the United States, Germany, Portugal, Japan, Korea, and China.
In addition to the task of training and improving the quality of IT human resources, the IT staff of Vinh University have actively participated and contributed significantly to the IT development of the school and the province such as: Computerizing the management work of Vinh University; Consulting on the construction and implementation of IT investment projects at the University; Participating in organizing IT competitions organized by Nghe An province; Participating in teaching IT knowledge training courses for civil servants and teachers of the province and provinces in the region; Participating in the construction, appraisal, implementation, and criticism of a number of IT topics and projects of the province...
Currently, the Faculty of Information Technology is collaborating with Arizona State University (USA) to develop an advanced training program in IT. The Faculty also organizes exchanges between students and employers, effectively implements internship and professional practice activities, and invites lecturers from businesses to teach related topics.
