(Baonghean) -According to forecasts, tonight, July 30, storm No. 3 will directly hit Dien Chau district (Nghe An). In addition to organizing the evacuation of people and calling on boats to return to safe shelters, the work of checking and ensuring safety at reservoirs, dykes and construction works is closely monitored by the District Steering Committee for Flood and Storm Prevention.
On the afternoon of July 30, comrade Phan Dinh Trac - Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of Nghe An Provincial Party Committee had a working session with the People's Committee of Dien Chau district. At the meeting, Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Vo - Chairman of the People's Committee of Dien Chau district reported on the situation of storm prevention and control work No. 3 in the district. One of the issues of concern for Dien Chau district is the plan to protect dykes, dams and construction works in the district.
Provincial Party Secretary Phan Dinh Trac listened to the leaders of Dien Chau district report on safety assurance work at reservoirs and dykes in the district.
Dien Chau district has 2 sea dikes, 2 river estuary dikes and Bung river dike with a total length of nearly 60km. The Kim-Hai-Hung dike, Dien Thanh dike, Trung-Thinh-Thanh dike have been upgraded to an elevation of (+4.50) to ensure protection against level 10 storms. As for the Bich-Van-Ngoc river estuary dike, the construction of the land foundation is being urgently carried out to reach the design elevation, while the contractor is being directed to complete the critical sections to protect residential areas.
However, these dikes are still low, the cross-section is small and weak, the culverts on the dikes have degraded so they are no longer safe. In this situation, the District Flood and Storm Prevention Command Board coordinated with the commune authorities to arrange at least 100 people to guard the dikes, culverts and gather stakes and soil bags to protect the dikes.
For dams in the district, they have been upgraded to ensure flood and storm protection. Currently, 2 out of 3 large dams (Xuan Duong, Bau Da) have basically met the requirements for flood and storm protection. Particularly, Dinh Du lake in Dien Lam commune with a capacity of nearly 2 million m3The water is still not safe. The District People's Committee has directed the communes to focus on inspection work and regularly be on duty, promptly reporting to the Command Committee when a situation occurs.
Ms. Hoang Thi Huong - Vice Chairman of Dien Chau District People's Committee said: In the face of possible flooding when the storm makes landfall, the District Flood and Storm Prevention and Control Steering Committee has proposed plans to protect people's crop areas and aquaculture areas. Accordingly, the district directed communes to carry out the work of clearing drainage systems and handling bottom traps on rivers and canals. Focus on draining the Son Tinh and Nha Le drainage canals to drain in time, minimizing damage caused by flooding and storms. Particularly in aquaculture areas, the district has directed households to urgently harvest early to avoid damage that may occur due to storms.
