Dien Thinh Commune, Dien Chau has 40 hectares of winter vegetables. Planting started in September, and so far, vegetable growers have had several harvests. Ms. Nguyen Thi Hai, Hamlet 8, said: On two sao of land, her family mainly grows vegetables, from sweet cabbage to sprouted cabbage to eat raw, "rotating" continuously. Vegetables are more expensive at the beginning of the season, but currently, she can still sell vegetables at prices ranging from 3,500-4,000 VND/kg of Hanoi cabbage used for pickling, sweet cabbage at 7,000 VND/kg. According to Ms. Hai, "there has never been a year with such favorable weather for vegetable growth as this year. There is almost no rain, few pests, so there is no need to use pesticides, the vegetables are planted and grow well."
Mr. Cao Hieu, Chairman of the Commune People's Committee, said: Although the area is not as large as corn and peanuts, in recent years, vegetables of all kinds have proven to be very economically effective on fertile land areas in Dien Thinh. Vegetables can earn several hundred million VND/ha. With vegetables such as mustard greens, cauliflower, kohlrabi, etc., Dien Thinh vegetables are not only consumed in the district and in Vinh City, Nghi Loc, but in recent years, people have also invested in buying cars, collecting and transporting them to sell in Ha Tinh, mountainous districts of Que Phong, Con Cuong, Ky Son, etc.

With 46 hectares of various vegetables, Dien My Agricultural Cooperative is increasingly proving its great economic efficiency in the winter crop. Many areas originally planted with sweet potatoes and soybeans have been gradually converted to grow corn and various vegetables.
This winter crop, Dien Chau has 1,500 hectares of various types of commercial vegetables such as mustard greens, squash, cauliflower, concentrated in the communes of Dien Thanh, Dien Ky, Dien Phong, Dien Xuan, Dien Hanh... The district also directed the development of some additional areas in Dien Loc, Dien Binh... Currently, Dien Binh has 20 hectares of cucumbers and squash on rice land, bringing in an income of about 6 million VND/sao.
According to vegetable growers, although prices fluctuate according to the market and the season, in summary, a vegetable crop has never lost money. With a continuous rotation, farmers can earn up to several hundred million VND/ha. In the upcoming development direction, the district will direct the planting of off-season squash to have early-season products to sell at high prices, increasing economic efficiency.
