(Baonghean.vn) In line with the policy of converting crop structure (CCCT) on fertile soil, Dien Chau farmers have drilled and dug wells in the fields and brought electricity to the fields to serve the irrigation needs of the fertile areas. In recent years, thanks to the widespread implementation of this movement, Dien Chau farmers have been proactive in irrigation water sources, improving economic efficiency in the production fields.

We went to Dien Ky commune, a locality with the strongest movement of drilling and digging wells to irrigate crops in the fields in Dien Chau district. Ms. Dau Thi Hoa, hamlet 2 Dien Ky, is taking care of winter peanuts and said: Her family has 1.5 sao of fertile land, previously every year she planted peanuts, corn and sesame, the efficiency depends on weather conditions.

In 2009, after switching to growing watermelon, her family spent over 1.2 million VND to hire someone to drill a well and buy a pump to place in the field. Ms. Hoa was excited: “Every year, our family grows 3 crops, including 2 melon crops (spring watermelon, summer-autumn watermelon) and a winter crop with different crop structures. In a good year, the price of melons is high, and we earn nearly 7 million VND/sao/crop. Peanuts and winter corn produce many firm tubers and plump seeds, so the income is quite good. The economic efficiency in producing crops in the field has increased more than 4 times compared to before.”

Well dug in the colored area in Dien Thanh - Dien Chau

According to Mr. Ngo Ba Tuan - Head of Dien Ky Agricultural Service Cooperative, the whole commune currently has 100 hectares of annual specialized crop production (accounting for more than 1/3 of the total agricultural land area of the commune).

In 2005, following the policy of the District People's Committee on supporting people in drilling and digging irrigation wells in the fields to develop high-income fields of 50 million/ha in the crop area, the Party Committee and People's Committee of Dien Ky commune issued a policy and resolution directing the Agricultural Service Cooperative to inspect and delimit households with conditions to build models that are supported with drilling wells.

In fact, 50 hectares of the color production area of 4 hamlets were supported with 20 water wells. The commune created conditions to extend a 2 km long power line to the fields for people to use electricity to pump water from the wells, allowing people to use it for the first 3 years without paying for electricity. After that, seeing the effectiveness of the irrigation wells in the fields, farmers in the whole commune voluntarily invested in drilling wells.

In 2011, the commune extended over 3 km of power lines for people to use to pump water according to their needs. Up to now, the whole commune has nearly 250 irrigation wells in the color production area, of which Hamlet 2 has 150 wells, Hamlet 3 and Hamlet 4 have about 80 water wells in the fields.

In particular, every household growing watermelon has a well and a pump. By doing so, Dien Ky has produced 3 main crops on fertile land/year, which are 2 watermelon crops and a commercial winter corn crop. In recent years, the commune's watermelon field of more than 40 hectares has brought in a good income, and the 10 hectares of winter corn crop alone have created a large amount of key agricultural products in the area, with farmers earning hundreds of millions of VND/crop/year.

Besides Dien Ky commune, Dien Thanh commune in recent years, thanks to the guaranteed regular water source for irrigation for the specialized crop growing area, farmers in the commune have been doing business effectively. In many hamlets, due to the condition of non-concentrated crop land, distributed over many fields, many households have invested their own money, such as in hamlet 4, many households have from 3 to 5 pumps, 2 to 7 drilled wells to proactively take care of their crop growing areas.

In addition to drilled wells, the movement of digging open wells has been well implemented by the people, meeting the irrigation needs for color production effectively. To encourage the people, the commune supports 50% of the cost of building high-income fields and drilling and digging wells in the fields, supporting from 1 to 2 million VND depending on the region and each crop, supporting 50% of the electricity line for difficult areas to convert high-income fields to use irrigation water for color crops from irrigation wells in the fields. The movement of developing digging and drilling wells to serve irrigation water for color crops in the fields in Dien Thanh has mobilized a large amount of internal resources and self-awareness from farmers. The whole commune currently has 630 water wells serving irrigation for color areas, of which nearly 400 are drilled wells and more than 200 are dug wells.

Every year, Dien Chau district maintains nearly 1,000 hectares of various vegetables on alluvial land and 2-rice land. Mr. Vo Khanh Khoa - expert of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Dien Chau district, said: In 2005, Dien Chau district strongly and synchronously implemented the conversion of crop structure on fertile land, built high-income fields of 5 hectares or more, and supported 100% of watermelon seeds for communes implementing the model.

In conjunction with this program, from 2005-2007, the district supported 1 million VND/ha for conversion in pulling power lines and building water well systems in high-income fields. From 2009 onwards, to continue encouraging the development of color areas, the district supported 4 to 5 million VND/ha, helping people exploit and fully mobilize irrigation water sources inCopper from drilled wells and open wells to ensure the best water source for growing crops throughout the district.

According to statistics from the district's Department of Agriculture, up to now, 13 color-growing communes in Dien Chau district have developed over 2,300 drilled and dug wells to provide irrigation water in the fields and bring electricity to the fields, ensuring irrigation water for nearly 350 hectares/1,000 hectares of specialized crops annually in the whole district.

The movement to develop models of drilled wells, dug wells in the fields and bring electricity to the fields in Dien Chau is a good way, promoting high efficiency in production. It is known that in the resolution for the period 2011-2015, Dien Chau district added a support mechanism of 5 million VND/1 hectare of conversion to expand high-income fields associated with drilled wells and dug wells to provide irrigation water for the crop areas.
