Dien Chau: Developing intra-field transport system
(Baonghean) - By mobilizing people's strength, many localities in Dien Chau district have promoted the construction of intra-field traffic systems, creating favorable conditions for the use of machinery in production and improving crop productivity.
Mr. Phan Van Tan's family in Trung Hong hamlet, Dien Hong commune has 6 members working on nearly 5 sao of rice fields. Implementing the commune's policy of mobilizing people to contribute to building intra-field roads, his family contributed 300,000 VND/person. Mr. Tan shared: "Good intra-field roads will help people travel and produce conveniently, at the same time, bring mechanization into the fields easily, speed up production progress, contribute to increasing productivity and harvest output. Realizing the practical effectiveness for farmers, not only my family but all households in the hamlet enthusiastically contributed to building intra-field roads."

Mr. Nguyen Viet Xuan, Head of Trung Hong Hamlet, said: The whole hamlet has 47 hectares of agricultural production, mainly growing rice 2 crops/year, with an average yield of 3 quintals/sao. Farmers are attached to their fields, the farmers here work hard, so the awareness of internal traffic of each household is very good, 100% of households agree to respond. Currently, in the hamlet, there is nearly 1 km of concrete road leading to the fields, in addition, the hamlet has dug and built 11 km of high dirt roads running across the fields for people to travel conveniently, transporting rice, fertilizers and materials to the fields. In previous years, every harvest, people had to carry rice from the fields to the road, which was quite far, very hard work, now there is a road running close to the fields, people are excited and feel secure in production. The yield is also higher, in 2010, spring rice reached 3 quintals/sao, this year it reached 3.5 quintals/sao.
Up to now, the whole Dien Hong commune has built 13 main concrete roads connecting from National Highway 1A to the fields, with a total length of nearly 7 km, a road surface of 3.5 m wide, a total investment of 9 billion VND, of which the people contributed nearly 8 billion VND, and the province supported more than 900 tons of cement. Mr. Nguyen Hong Trung, Chairman of Dien Hong Commune People's Committee, said: Up to now, the commune's internal road system has been basically completed, achieving this result thanks to the consensus and support of the people. Now the roads to the fields are also clean and beautiful, all kinds of trucks, tractors, plows, and harvesters can operate right to the fields. With convenient internal roads, the locality has planned model fields for high-yield rice production and colored fields in Bac Hong and Hong Thinh. Along with promoting the construction of internal roads, the commune is also interested in making concrete canals to serve production.
Dien Thap commune is also a locality that actively builds intra-field traffic from funds mobilized from local contributions and the commune budget. Currently, the commune has built over 7 km of concrete roads. In addition, the system of embankment roads across and along the fields is 3 - 5m wide. Ms. Hoang Thi Hoai in hamlet 6 visits the fields by motorbike every few days to monitor the development of the rice, promptly detect pests and diseases and take quick preventive measures. Her family is one of the households with the most fields in the commune. Mrs. Hoai shared: "Nowadays, farmers work in the fields with less difficulty than before, the roads certainly run to the edge of the fields. When the harvest season comes, there are harvesters and vehicles to quickly transport rice home, so from the production, fertilization to harvesting stages, there are machines to support, minimizing labor. The internal transportation system is convenient, so my family uses machines to level the land and lower 8 sao of rice fields to grow rice. Every spring crop, the average yield is more than 3 quintals/sao."
Mr. Vo Thai Sinh, a cadastral and construction officer of Dien Thap commune, said: Since 2013, the commune has implemented land consolidation and plot exchange, with the people's high consensus and joint efforts to dig and build more than 140,000m3 of internal irrigation works. Households receiving land under Decree 64 contributed 480,000 VND/person to renovate fields, canals, embankments, and plot embankments... In 2015, implementing the program of concreting internal traffic, each household receiving land under Decree 64 continued to contribute 300,000 VND/person to build 3.8 km of concrete road to the fields. Currently, the foundation has been completed, and we are waiting for the province's support of cement to complete the road surface.
Up to now, the whole district of Dien Chau has 204 km of intra-field roads, of which the main road with a width of 5-7m is 125.5 km, the road with a width of 3-5m is 78.5 km long, currently 9.5 km has been concreted. Communes with good intra-field traffic include Dien Thang, Dien Loc, Dien Hong, Dien Tho, Dien Thap, Dien Lien... In parallel with the intra-field traffic, the district has focused on upgrading and majorly repairing 21 electric pumping stations; 135 km of irrigation and drainage canals, of which nearly 64 km have been solidified, building new and repairing hundreds of intra-field bridges and culverts with a total cost of about 260 billion VND. Dien Chau is gradually modernizing agricultural production and moving towards a concentrated and comprehensive production scale.
