Dien Chau develops traditional craft villages

(Baonghean) -In 2003, Dien Chau started to build craft villages and up to now, the whole district has 16 craft villages recognized by Nghe An Provincial People's Committee, 13 craft villages recognized by the district. All craft villages are effective, people have stable income.

Tan Yen Vermicelli and Banh Craft Village (Dien Dong Commune, Dien Chau District) was recognized as a craft village in 2011. Most families in the village have a stable income with 3 products: Banh Goi, Banh Nep and Banh Mat. The main consumer market is traders who come to their families to get the goods and bring them to the markets to sell. Anyone who wants to order cakes as gifts, weddings, etc. just needs to call in advance.

The family of Ms. Hoang Thi Phuong (Tan Yen cake village) is famous for its delicious cakes throughout the district. Her leaf cakes are soft, white, and not greasy. The honey cakes are just the right amount of sweet and rich, and she chooses good beans so the bean filling is fragrant. Ms. Phuong said that every profession has its own secret. Her mother-in-law taught her the craft, from the process of choosing banana leaves, rice, seasoning, mixing to the cooking process, there must be a secret, so that the cakes are delicious, soft, and fragrant. Especially, she always knows how to maintain the brand for herself and her family with delicious cakes that will be remembered for a long time.

Ms. Phuong confided: I only make about 20 kg of rice a day, mostly pre-ordered cakes. After deducting raw materials and other expenses, I still make a profit of over 100,000 VND a day.

Mr. Hoang Minh Huu - Secretary of the Dien Dong Commune Party Committee said: Tan Yen cake making really gives people a stable life, the products are sold quickly without having to invest much capital. On average, each family has an income from making cakes of nearly 2 million VND/month. In addition, people also have other service jobs, animal husbandry, farming, etc.

Mr. Hoang Xuan Bon - Head of the Department of Industry and Trade of Dien Chau district said: The whole district has 16 craft villages recognized by the Provincial People's Committee, 13 craft villages recognized by the district. The craft villages are all effective, people have stable income. Most of the craft villages are promoting efficiency, increasing income, stable income thanks to paying attention to quality and design. Typically, Tan Yen cake village, Dien Quang vermicelli village... Dien Kim silk weaving village, confectionery, Chu Huong splitting village... the average income of each worker is from 1.5 million to 2 million VND/month.
However, the issue of environmental protection in craft villages is a matter of concern. Mr. Bon added: Craft villages really need support from above to invest in a synchronous wastewater treatment system, form a craft village association to organize, manage and operate activities for craft villages to develop more sustainably...
