Overview of the ceremony |
Dien Hai is a coastal commune, with only 220 small boats, 100% of which have a capacity of less than 20 VC, all of which are fishing inshore, which greatly affects the protection of aquatic resources. Most of the people here still believe that protecting aquatic resources is the responsibility of the State. Therefore, the establishment of a Co-management Group with 220 fishing households as members is a way for the State and the people here to participate in protection, focusing on and promoting the role of the people, the direct beneficiaries, to raise awareness of responsibility for protecting coastal aquatic resources.
Accordingly, 220 fishing households in Dien Hai commune participating in the coastal fisheries co-management group are responsible, together with the State, for protecting and regenerating coastal aquatic resources within a range of 11 km inland, funded by the World Bank, with a total support fee of over 1.8 billion VND, for a period of 3 years.
Before that, to move towards the establishment, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development and the Provincial Project Management Board held 19 meetings to propagate and mobilize 100% of fishing households in Dien Hai commune to participate. At the announcement ceremony, representatives of the Department, district, commune and fishermen of Dien Hai commune signed a commitment to strictly implement regulations on protecting and regenerating coastal aquatic resources.
