Dien Chau organizes the first fishing festival of the year

(Baonghean.vn) - The ancient fishing ritual was reenacted in Dien Ngoc commune (Dien Chau) on March 9 (February 12 of the lunar calendar), expressing the desire of local fishermen to pray for the sea god to bless them with favorable weather, calm seas, and a full hold of fish.

The festival is held in Ngoc Van hamlet (Dien Ngoc, Dien Chau, Nghe An) with the participation of 10 boats. Here, the ancient fishing ritual is recreated. Fishermen carry the Whale God out to sea to perform a ceremony to worship the Sea God, along with offerings. Then, the God is brought back to continue the ceremony at the Whale Temple. In addition, the custom of fishing at sea with the spirit of victory right from the beginning of the year is also vividly recreated.

Cau Ngu is a traditional festival of Dien Chau fishermen with strong folk culture. The festival has been passed down by Dien Ngoc fishermen for hundreds of years and has been held on a larger scale for the past 3 years. It is known that Dien Ngoc has 470 boats, catching over 14,000 tons of various types of seafood each year./.
