Dien Chau honors Catholic delegates building and defending the Fatherland

(Baonghean.vn) - Dien Chau district currently has 64 hamlets in 22/39 communes and towns with Catholics, with more than 30,800 Catholics, whose religious activities are concentrated in 12 parishes and 40 chapels.

On June 16, Dien Chau district, Nghe An province held the 7th Congress of Vietnamese Catholics for the construction and protection of the Fatherland, term 2017-2022. Attending the congress were Priest Nguyen Dang Dien - Chairman of the Provincial Catholic Solidarity Committee, permanent representatives of the District Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee, Fatherland Front Committee and a number of district-level departments and branches, along with 100 outstanding faces representing Catholics in the entire district.


In the past 5 years, implementing the economic and social development policies and guidelines set forth by the Party and the State, especially the campaign "All people unite to build a cultural life in residential areas, live a good life and follow the religion", parishioners have made many innovations in applying scientific and technological advances to develop production and livestock, creating many high-income models, such as the model in Dien Thinh commune raising chickens with an income of 200 million VND/year, the model of raising shrimp on sand with an income of 400 million VND/year; the model of raising fish fry of Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Le of Kim Loan parish, Dien Doai, each year exporting over 20 tons of fish fry with an income of 600 million VND/year...

Typical examples of industrial production, small-scale industry, trade and services also tend to develop. The whole district currently has 560 good production and business models, with stable income of over 100 million VND/year. The number of well-off and rich households increases every year, with 2,860 households (accounting for 45.8%), an increase of 8.8% compared to 2012. The poverty rate decreased from 10.8% to 6.1%.

Responding to the movement of the whole people joining hands to build the New Rural Area, in 5 years, parishioners have donated 64,000m2 of agricultural land, 2,600m2 of residential land, dismantled 1,250m of fence to widen the road; contributed 1 billion 850 million VND, more than 32,000 working days, together with the people contributed to build 35km of asphalt road, 65km of concrete village road and 32km of concrete canal. The movement to support humanitarian charity in their parishes continues to develop. With the spirit of “When drinking water, remember its source”, “the whole leaves cover the torn leaves”, in the past 5 years, Dien Chau parishioners have contributed hundreds of millions of VND to support the “Fund of gratitude”, “Fund for the poor”, renovating 16 great solidarity houses, supporting the repair of 27 houses for poor households, helping many families in especially difficult circumstances...

The emulation movement to build cultural life, artistic and sports activities in parishes is quite active; The movement to care for children's education in parishes and chapels is focused. In 2016, 5,150 households (accounting for 76%) achieved the title of cultural family, an increase of 2.6% compared to 2012; 34 hamlets were recognized as "Cultural Villages", including 4 hamlets with all Catholics.

Speaking at the Congress, Priest Nguyen Dang Dien - Chairman of the Provincial Catholic Solidarity Committee warmly congratulated and commended the results of the activities of the parishioners and the District Catholic Solidarity Committee during the past term.

The Chairman of the Provincial Catholic Solidarity Committee hopes that in the coming term, the District Catholic Solidarity Committee will continue to coordinate well with the Fatherland Front and district-level organizations and departments to regularly grasp and gather the legitimate thoughts and aspirations of the parishioners to reflect to the Party and State for consideration and resolution; encourage the parishioners to well implement the policies and laws of the Party and State, well implement the 10 contents of the campaign "All people unite to build a cultural life in residential areas, live a good life and follow the religion"; actively respond to and participate in patriotic emulation movements and local campaigns to contribute to building their homeland to be increasingly rich, beautiful and civilized.

At the congress, 19 individuals were awarded by the District People's Committee for their outstanding achievements in 5 years of implementing the campaign "All people unite to build a cultural life in residential areas, live a good life and follow good religion".

The congress consulted to elect the District Catholic Solidarity Committee for the 2017-2022 term with 26 members; consulted to elect 14 delegates to attend the Provincial Congress of Vietnamese Catholics for Building and Protecting the Fatherland.
