Dien Chau grows 10 hectares of flowers to serve Lunar New Year

(Baonghean.vn) - Currently, people in Dien Chau district are entering the Tet flower growing season, this is a new direction in the past few years that has brought high economic efficiency.

At this time, Phan Ngoc Tuyet and her husband, hamlet 6, Dien Ky -One of the first households to grow flowers here is busy with fertilizing and weeding so that the flowers grow well and bloom in time for Tet.

Ms. Tuyet said: My family has 7 sao of land to grow Tet flowers,Because the land and climate are not suitable for growing plants, flowers must be imported from provinces from Hanoi, Nam Dinh to Da Lat for planting. The flowers grown are mainly marigolds and some other crops.

Due to the increasing demand of the people, this year some households in Dien Chau have invested heavily to choose to buy high-class flower varieties such as dieffenbachia, money tree... Ms. Le Thi Mai, Dien Nguyen commune, a resident who grows and sells Tet flowers, shared: This year, there have been many natural disasters, so the supply of goods is not as abundant as in previous years, so the price of flowers this year has also increased, however, the purchasing power of the people has not decreased.

According to Mr. An, a flower grower in Dien Ky, last year I imported chrysanthemum seeds from the South for 200 VND/plant, but this year it was 400 VND/plant. The entire flower garden is 3,500m2.²I have to pay for flower seeds up to nearly 100 million VND, double last year. Therefore, we just hope for favorable weather so that the plants can grow well to make a profit.

Although the price of seeds is high, this is the time when flowers sell best in the year, so households that grow flowers annually in Dien Chau are bold enough to invest. At this time, Dien Chau people have planted flowers and started to take care of them. To keep the temperature good for the flowers and to take care of them at night, households have invested in light bulbs, on average, each sao has more than 50 bulbs installed and operated continuously so that the flowers can grow and bloom in time for Tet.

Due to high economic efficiency, the area and number of households growing flowers in Dien Chau are increasing. Currently, the whole district has more than 10 hectares of flowers with more than 30 households growing to supply the 2018 Tet market. Of which, chrysanthemums have the largest quantity with about 50% of the area.

The communes with the largest flower areas include Dien Hong, Dien Ky, Dien Dong, Dien Lien... After each crop, if well cared for and with good prices, each household has an average income of over 20 million VND./.
