The Kremlin does not consider the protests in Moscow to be a political crisis, such events take place all over the world, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.

"We do not agree with many people who call what is happening a political crisis," Mr Peskov told reporters.

He stressed that the protests taking place in many countries around the world are caused by specific issues.

“In European capitals, as well as around the world, protests are regularly held, sometimes these actions are of a mixed nature – they can be protest movements, marches and even entertainment. Such “symbiosis” is quite normal, so it is necessary to be extremely cautious when assessing it,” Peskov added.

The Kremlin believes that in Moscow there are places where protests are legal and there are also places where they are simply attempts to cause public unrest.

"There are places where protests take place legally, within the framework of the law, but there are also places where they are just attempts to disrupt public order," Mr. Peskov said in response to a question about whether the Kremlin considered it legal to prosecute participants in recent protests for organizing public riots.

Unauthorized rallies organized by failed candidates for the Moscow City Duma took place in the capital on July 14, July 27 and August 3.

Police arrested a total of about 1,700 people for violations. The investigation committee opened a criminal case on rioting and assaulting government officials.
