Kremlin ignores accusations of corruption against Prime Minister Medvedev

Russian President Vladimir Putin's spokesman said yesterday that information about Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev receiving bribes is not worth paying attention to.

Dmitry Peskov, the Russian president's spokesman, said the Kremlin had seen Aleksey Navalny's reports but did not look into them, Tass news agency reported. Peskov's statement came after Navalny's anti-corruption organization (FBK) published a video online, accusing Medvedev of owning a large amount of real estate through businessmen and companies close to him.

“This is not the first example of creativity by this famous convicted citizen,” Mr Peskov said. Navalny was convicted of fraud in 2014 and given a three-and-a-half-year suspended sentence.

Mr Peskov said there was no need to add anything after Natalia Timakova, Mr Medvedev's spokeswoman, issued a statement denying the allegations.

Timakova previously said Navalny’s investigation was not worth paying attention to because it was clearly propaganda against the prime minister. She stressed that it was useless to comment on the effort by a convicted opposition leader, who had made similar statements before the election campaign against the authorities, according to RIA Novosti.

Late last year, Navalny announced his intention to run for Russian president in 2018.
