According to TASS news agency on May 10, Russian President's press secretary Dmitry Peskov said that there can be no substantive discussion on a long-term ceasefire with Ukraine without taking into account the subtle nuances, when answering TASS's question.

According to the Kremlin spokesman, the topic of an unconditional ceasefire for 30 days “has been ‘raised’ by the Ukrainian side for a long time.” At the same time, the specific initiative for a ceasefire, which came not from Kiev but from Washington, “was supported by Russian President Vladimir Putin on the condition that there are many nuances around the idea of a ceasefire, and if answers to these nuances are not found, it will be difficult to talk about this issue specifically.

President Putin decided to declare a ceasefire during the celebrations of the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War - from 0:00 on May 8 to 0:00 on May 11.

According to the Kremlin report, "all military operations will be suspended during this time". This decision was made by the Russian President based on humanitarian considerations.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky then responded by declaring that the ceasefire must be implemented immediately, unconditionally and for at least 30 days.

Earlier, in March, the Russian leader noted that he supported establishing a long-term ceasefire, but first "a lot of questions must be answered and a lot of nuances resolved."
