This is the second time Vietnam has been honored with this title. In 2008, also at the Dubai Film Festival, Hong Anh won the Best Actress award for her role as Hanh in the film Moon at the Bottom of the Well directed by Nguyen Vinh Son. In Mother's Soul, Hong Anh plays the mother of the character played by Phung Hoa Hoai Linh.
The Dubai Film Festival Organizing Committee's award for Best Actress
is 8,000 USD (nearly 170 million VND). Because he is studying for his semester exams at school, Phung Hoa Hoai Linh cannot follow the film crew to Dubai to attend. Director Nhue Giang and producer of Mother's Soul
received the award on her behalf.
Although it has just entered its 8th year, the Dubai International Film Festival is considered one of the most prestigious film festivals in Asia, attracting many quality works and many international stars. There are two award categories in the Dubai Film Festival: the Award for Arab Films and the Award for Asian - African Feature Films. This year, Vietnam's representative is Tam Hon Me,
competing in the second category with 14 other works.

Mother's Soul, produced by Vietnam Feature Film Studio, is a film that director Pham Nhue Giang has been nurturing for 20 years. Based on the short story of the same name by writer Nguyen Huy Thiep published in the late 1980s, the film revolves around a mother and son living in a shabby house on the sandbank of the Red River, Hanoi.
Hong Anh plays a mother who works as a fruit vendor at Long Bien market, over 30 years old but still innocent, instinctive, immature and sometimes lets her love life overwhelm her role as a mother in the family. Meanwhile, her daughter Thu (Phung Hoa Hoai Linh) is just over 10 years old but is very mature and soon reveals the qualities of a mother. Thu cares for, protects and wholeheartedly shelters and protects her orphaned classmate named Dang.
Phung Hoa Hoai Linh was born in 1999 and has been in front of the camera since a very young age. She has participated in a number of TV series, notably The Tent by director Nguyen Thanh Van. Hoai Linh's pure and innocent beauty is considered to have similarities to Chu Dong Vu - the main actress in the film The Love Story of the Hawthorn Tree by Chinese director Zhang Yimou.
Mother's Soul was invested by the State, about 4 billion VND, with additional funding from the Southern Cinema Fund (Fond Sud) and completed post-production in Thailand. This is also one of 17 works competing in the Feature Film category at the 17th Vietnam Film Festival taking place in Tuy Hoa city, Phu Yen province. On December 6, the film had its premiere in Hanoi.
Director Pham Nhue Giang and the producer are on their way back to Vietnam. On December 16, she will be in Phu Yen to attend the 17th Vietnam Film Festival. Along with Mui Co Chay, Nhin Ra Bien Ca, Long Thanh Cam Gia Ca, Hot Boy Noi Loan, Canh Dong Bat Tan, Tam Hon Me is also a strong candidate for the Golden Lotus Award in the Feature Film category this time.
