On the occasion of going to Hanoi to film a Tet film, Xuan Nghi looked gaunt and shy with the media. He shared with VietNamNet reporter that recently he had encountered many incidents happening at the same time, both in work, love and family matters. Everything came crashing down at once, leaving Xuan Nghi unable to react and trying to live slowly to understand clearly "why he encountered such things".

During his time in meditation, Xuan Nghi decided to change and become more mature. For the past year, he has been a vegetarian, reading books on Buddhism by Thich Nhat Hanh, and not using social media.

During the days of enlightenment and contemplation of the events that happened to him, he realized that doing this job requires gratitude.

"Before, I did my job the way I liked, a bit individualistic. Many times I didn't think about my colleagues, the audience and the people who loved me. Now I realize that I do my job not only to satisfy my personal passion but also for the art and the audience - the people who love me.

For a long time, I have lived without gratitude. Gratitude not only for people, family, colleagues but also for all living things, the sun, wind, plants, animals... things that have helped me survive," Xuan Nghi said.

During the time of trouble, Xuan Nghia was fortunate to receive support from friends in the same situation and religion.

Without saying anything specifically about the incident, Xuan Nghia said "it was a painful but very valuable lesson."

"Even if you tell me what I've been through, you still can't imagine. It's like I ate a very sour mango, but people who haven't eaten it can't know how sour it is. I've gone through events that I created myself and also caused by external factors. I witnessed it, like being thrown straight into a 'storm' so I clearly felt the pain. When I successfully endured that pain, I burst into happiness because I knew what I needed to change," Xuan Nghia confided.

For the past two years, Xuan Nghi has isolated himself from the world of artists and has had almost no contact with anyone. He heals himself by reading books, listening to Dharma talks by Master Thich Minh Niem and searching for life philosophies.

"I lost many career opportunities, faced expensive lessons but have no regrets. What I realized is more valuable than the performances. I feel I have to filter out what movies I participate in, what I act in. I don't want to just bring laughter but leave the audience with something, to awaken them," the artist confided.
