Injured, Bale misses match against Copenhagen

Injury continues to plague Gareth Bale as the world's most expensive player missed Real Madrid's match against FC Copenhagen.

Bale trained separately in the recovery room yesterday while his teammates prepared for the match against FC Copenhagen. The Welshman was not included in Ancelotti's squad. After the defeat to Atletico in La Liga that left Real five points behind Barca in the standings, Bale was the man Ancelotti had hoped to rely on.

But he was unable to play due to a further problem with his left thigh. Bale had suffered a problem with his left thigh during the warm-up against Getafe 10 days ago, forcing him out of Madrid's starting line-up. Real Madrid are now very concerned about Bale's condition after what happened to their £86m new signing.

Bale's pre-season has been strange, not just physically but mentally. He has had to wait a long time to join Madrid, which is why Ancelotti cited Bale's injury before the Getafe game.

Scans the following day revealed no thigh tear and Bale sat out the midweek game against Elche, then played the second half of the Madrid derby. Bale played just one pre-season game for his former club Tottenham and played 33 minutes for Wales in their last World Cup qualifier before joining Madrid.

Bale has started just one of the five games he has played for Madrid so far. He came on as a substitute for the final 30 minutes of the Champions League match against Galatasaray.
