On August 9, Dr. Nguyen Minh Vu, Head of the General Planning Department, Can Tho Central General Hospital, the hospital's spokesman, said: The hospital's Board of Directors has just held an urgent meeting and decided to temporarily suspend the entire on-duty team of the Obstetrics Department related to the death of mother and child Tran Thi Phuong (born in 1974, residing in Trau Hoi A hamlet, Thanh Xuan commune, Chau Thanh A district, Hau Giang province) on the morning of August 7.
The on-duty team that was temporarily suspended from work included: Doctor Do Thi Minh Nguyet (Team Leader), Doctor Duong Thi My Linh and Doctor Le Thi Thu Van. In addition, the hospital also temporarily suspended work with 4 midwives and 1 nurse. Currently, Can Tho Central General Hospital has invited obstetrics experts from Tu Du Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City to organize a death review to have an official conclusion on the cause of death of the mother and child, and to clarify the responsibility of each individual.
Before that, at around 5:00 p.m. on August 2, Ms. Phuong had a stomachache so she went to Can Tho Central General Hospital for examination. Afterwards, Ms. Phuong was admitted to the hospital, monitored in the obstetrics department and on the morning of August 7, Phuong and her child died. Suspecting that the hospital's obstetrics department staff were negligent, the patient's family filed a complaint against the obstetricians for causing the death of Phuong and her child./.
